Analytic philosophy has come to dominate organizational theory and management education, despite criticism from several notable scholars. The European continental philosophical tradition, on the other hand, is seen by some as a counterpoint to US- and UK-dominated functionalistic organizational theories. These two very different schools of thought are now largely practiced in isolation from one another. Late nineteenth and early twentieth century philosopher Ernst Cassirer served as a mediating force and facilitated a fruitful dialogue between the two schools until he was forced to leave Germany when the Nazi party came to power. In Pluralism in Management, author Eirik J. Irgens utilizes Ernst Cassirer’s pluralistic philosophy in order to investigate how different but connected forms of knowing, including art, myth, religion, science, and history may help us become better organizational scholars and management educators. Territorial pluralism is a form of political autonomy designed to accommodate national, ethnic, or linguistic differences within a state. It has the potential to provide for the peaceful, democratic, and just management of difference. But given traditional concerns about state sovereignty, nation-building, and unity, how realistic is it to expect that a state’s authorities will agree to recognize and empower distinct substate communities? Territorial Pluralism answers this question by examining a wide variety of cases, including developing and industrialized states and democratic and authoritarian regimes. Drawing on examples of both success and failure, contributors analyze specific cases to understand the kinds of institutions that emerge in response to demands for territorial pluralism, as well as their political effects. With identity conflicts continuing to have a major impact on politics around the globe, they argue that territorial pluralism remains a legitimate and effective means for managing difference in multinational states.

In the past decades, social enterprise has been an emerging field of research. Its main frameworks have been provided by Occidental approaches. Mainly based on an organizational vision, they give little or no room to questions such as gender, race, colonialism, class, power relations and intertwined forms of inequality. However, a wide range of worldwide hidden, popular initiatives can be considered as another form of social enterprises based on solidarity, re-embedding the economy as well as broadening the political scope. This has been shown in a previous book: Civil Society, the Third Sector, and Social Enterprise: Governance and Democracy. Thus, to be more than a fashion or a fictitious panacea, the concept of social enterprise needs to be debated. Southern realities cannot be only understood through imported categories and outside modeled guidelines. Conflicts over natural resources abound in India, where much of the population is dependent on these resources for their livelihoods.
