Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems: Concept, Design and Methods of Optimization looks at the potential of effectively designed PVPS and how they can be commercially efficient and economically competitive to grid connected or diesel generator (DG) based pumping systems. The low energy conversion efficiency of PV modules, nonlinearity of PV module/array I-V characteristics and the unique maximum power operation point are major challenges of this technology, this book provides readers with design and optimization methods, codes and critical analysis of the recent developments in PV pumping systems. Focusing on system feasibility and suitable applications with design procedures, this reference presents a critical analysis of PVPS field performance, modeling and control strategies using artificial intelligence techniques. A suitable text for researchers, engineers and graduate students who are working in the field of photovoltaics and pumping and systems. - Uses open source Matlab codes for PV pumping system optimization - Provides global cases studies and design examples for comparison - Includes a data source sheet for proposed systems for successful implementation methods

This book offers a perspective-driven exploration of the growing necessity for sustainability. The comprehension and application of sustainability differ widely among individuals and nations, influenced by the availability of natural resources and local capabilities. The key challenge is to accurately grasp the concepts and integrate sustainability into our daily routines. In this book, I have endeavored to clarify the concept of sustainability, breaking it down to actionable measures that can be adopted by governing authorities and policymakers. The book serves as a comprehensive guide to all aspects of sustainability and its significance in our lives. I have delved deeply into the topic to make it more accessible and practical for implementation. Enjoy your learning journey!

After the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to "end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all," researchers and policy makers highlighted the importance of targeted investment in science, technology, and innovation (STI) to make tangible progress. Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals showcases the roles that STI solutions can play in meeting on-the-ground socio-economic and environmental challenges among domestic and international organizations concerned with the SDGs in three overlapping areas: agriculture, health, and environment/energy. Authors and researchers from 31 countries tackle both big-picture questions, such as scaling up the adoption and diffusion of new sustainable technologies, and specific, localized case studies, focusing on developing and middle-income countries and specific STI solutions and policies. Issues addressed include renewable energy, automated vehicles, vaccines, digital health, agricultural biotechnology, and precision agriculture. In bringing together diverse voices from both policy and academic spheres, this volume provides practical and relevant insights and advice to support policy makers and managers seeking to enhance the roles of STI in sustainable development.

In August 2008, Heads of State of the Southern African Development Community adopted the ground-breaking SADC Protocol on Gender and Development. This followed a concerted campaign by NGOs under the umbrella of the Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance. The SADC Gender Protocol is the only sub-regional instrument that brings together existing global and continental commitments to gender equality and enhances these through time bound targets. Aligned to Millennium Development Goal Three, the original 28 targets of the Protocol targets expire in 2015. Now that 2015 is here, we need to step back, assess and reposition. In June 2014, SADC Gender Ministers agreed to review the targets of the Gender Protocol in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In May this year, ministers added that they want the Protocol to be accompanied by a Monitoring, Evaluation and Results Framework. The 2015 Barometer shows that implementation is now the biggest missing gap in the quest for gender equality. Now is the time to strengthen resolve, reconsider, reposition, and re-strategise for 2030. SADC GENDER PROTOCOL BAROMETER 2015 2015 is here! In August 2008, Heads of State of the Southern African Development Community adopted the ground-breaking SADC Protocol on Gender and Development. This followed a concerted campaign by NGOs under the umbrella of the Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance. By the 2013 Heads of State summit, 13 countries had signed and 12 countries had ratified the SADC Gender Protocol. The Protocol is now in force. With one year to go, time is ticking to 2015, when governments need to have achieved 28 targets for the attainment of gender equality. In keeping with the Alliance slogan: Yes we must! this 2014 Barometer provides a wealth of updated data against which progress will be measure by all those who cherish democracy in the region. The world, and SADC, is also looking to the future with the post 2015 agenda. Now is the time to strengthen resolve, reconsider, reposition, and re-strategise for 2030.
