This text contains the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2000). Topics include: computer vision and image analysis; pattern recognition and neural networks; image, speech and signal processing; and applications, robotics, systems and architectures.

Sometimes milestones in the evolution of the DAGM Symposium become immediately visible. The Technical Committee decided to publish the symposium proceedings completely in English. As a consequence we successfully negotiated with Springer Verlag to publish in the international well accepted series “Lecture Notes in Computer Science”. The quality of the contributions convinced the editors and the lectors. Thanks to them and to the authors. We received 105 acceptable, good, and even excellent manuscripts. We selected carefully, using three reviewers for each anonymized paper, 58 talks and posters. Our 41 reviewers had a hard job evaluating and especially rejecting contributions. We are grateful for the time and effort they spent in this task. The program committee awarded prizes to the best papers. We are much obliged to the generous sponsors. We had three invited talks from outstanding colleagues, namely Bernhard Nebel (Robot Soccer – A Challenge for Cooperative Action and Perception), Thomas Lengauer (Computational Biology – An Interdisciplinary Challenge for Computational Pattern Recognition), and Nassir Navab (Medical and Industrial Augmented Reality: Challenges for Real Time Vision, Computer Graphics, and Mobile Computing). N. Navab even wrote a special paper for this conference, which is included in the proceedings. We were proud that we could convince well known experts to offer tutorials to our participants: H. P. This 8-volumes set constitutes the refereed of the 25th International Conference on Pattern Recognition Workshops, ICPR 2020, held virtually in Milan, Italy and rescheduled to January 10 - 11, 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic. The 416 full papers presented in these 8 volumes were carefully reviewed and selected from about 700 submissions. The 46 workshops cover a wide range of areas including machine learning, pattern analysis, healthcare, human behavior, environment, surveillance, forensics and biometrics, robotics and egovision, cultural heritage and document analysis, retrieval, and women at ICPR2020.

The field of biometrics utilizes computer models of the physical and behavioral characteristics of human beings with a view to reliable personal identification. The human characteristics of interest include visual images, speech, and indeed anything which might help to uniquely identify the individual.The other side of the biometrics coin is biometric synthesis ? rendering biometric phenomena from their corresponding computer models. For example, we could generate a synthetic face from its corresponding computer model. Such a model could include muscular dynamics to model the full gamut of human emotions conveyed by facial expressions.This book is a collection of carefully selected papers presenting the fundamental theory and practice of various aspects of biometric data processing in the context of pattern recognition. The traditional task of biometric technologies ? human identification by analysis of biometric data ? is extended to include the new discipline of biometric synthesis.

Researchers from various disciplines such as pattern recognition, statistics, and machine learning have explored the use of ensemble methodology since the late seventies. Thus, they are faced with a wide variety of methods, given the growing interest in the field. This book aims to impose a degree of order upon this diversity by presenting a coherent and unified repository of ensemble methods, theories, trends, challenges and applications. The book describes in detail the classical methods, as well as the extensions and novel approaches developed recently. Along with algorithmic descriptions of each method, it also explains the circumstances in which this method is applicable and the consequences and the trade-offs incurred by using the method.

Pattern recognition continued to be one of the important research fields in computer science and electrical engineering. Lots of new applications are emerging, and hence pattern analysis and synthesis become significant subfields in pattern recognition. This book is an edited volume and has six chapters arranged into two sections, namely, pattern recognition analysis and pattern recognition applications. This book will be useful for graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers working in the field of machine vision and computer science and engineering.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 27th Symposium of the German Association for Pattern Recognition, DAGM 2005, held in Wien, Austria in August/September 2005. The 29 revised full papers and 31 revised poster papers presented together with 2 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 122 submissions.
