This textbook provides a calculus-based introduction to economics. Students blessed with a working knowledge of the calculus will find that this text facilitates their study of the basic analytical framework of economics. The textbook examines a wide range of micro and macro topics, including prices and markets, equity versus efficiency, Rawls versus Bentham, accounting and the theory of the firm, optimal lot size and just in time, monopoly and competition, exchange rates and the balance of payments, inflation and unemployment, fiscal and monetary policy, IS-LM analysis, aggregate demand and supply, speculation and rational expectations, growth and development, exhaustible resources and over-fishing. While the content is similar to that of conventional introductory economics textbook, the assumption that the reader knows and enjoys the calculus distinguishes this book from the traditional text.

This book is principally concerned with the relatively complex small molecules produced by plants, which are important as drugs, fine chemicals, fragrances, flavours and biologically-active dietary constituents. In a wide-ranging series of thematic essays, it covers key aspects of their role in plant ecology, their metabolism in the plant, their discovery, characterisation and use and their significance in the diet. Biotechnology, including prospects for the genetic engineering of metabolic pathways, for biotransformations and also for the production of biologically-active proteins, is the focus of the final section of the book. The Division of Particles and Fields of the Mexican Physical Society (DPF-MPS) organized the X Mexican School of Particles and Fields (X MSPF). This meeting was dedicated to celebrate the 60th birthdays of Augusto Garcia and Arnulfo Zepeda, pioneers of this field in Latin America. The scientific program of the X MSPF included 70 review lectures on the most recent advances in high energy physics: experiment, theory, and phenomenology. Leading lecturers from more than ten countries presented their material at plenary sessions. Contributed papers were presented in a poster session. The topics covered during the X MSPF are the following: Precision tests of the standard model, QCD, neutrino physics, SUSY, experimental high energy physics, new physics and effective theories, quantum field theory, strings, quantum gravity, and cosmology.

The volume presents a broad coverage of this timely subject. The work is up-to-date and detailed enough to constitute a fine reference for experimental as well as for theoretical physicists, but also maintains an informative pedagogical tone so that it can serve as the basis for a modern course on the subject.Major sections include fundamentals of particle physics with results from accelerator experiments, the particle-cosmology interface, neutrino physics, large scale searches for proton decay and for exotic matter in the universe, neutrino astronomy, the physics of cosmic rays and gamma ray astronomy.
