"Let Us Therefore Come Boldly" traces all the places in the New Testament in which the Greek word "parresia" (boldness, confidence) is used. Each occurrence of the Greek word is explored in an English-friendly manner, under the assumption that the reader has had no prior experience with Greek. Every scripture which contains the word "parresia" is presented in its own section, with each section containing a Word Study Table displaying the Strong's number, Greek spelling, transliteration, translation and grammatical parts of speech for each word in the scripture. Following the Word Study Table for each scripture, the author provides commentary which brings out the rich layers of meaning behind the Greek word "parresia" within the full context of the passage. The book's user-friendly format makes it ideal for both individual study and group Bible study. As the reader explores each occurrence of "parresia" throughout the entire New Testament, one layer of meaning builds upon another to provide a complete picture of the many nuances of "parresia"... from boldness, to openness, to plainness or exactness of speech, to freedom or liberty in speech, to presenting oneself publicly rather than being concealed. This book provides any reader the opportunity to carry out a thorough Greek word study such as those commonly performed by Greek scholars or highly educated pastors, teachers and theology students -- without having to first master the Greek language. Throughout the book, the reader is encouraged to make personal application of the truths of these scriptures, specifically in submitting his or her will to the power of the Holy Spirit, thereby finding the supernatural confidence and boldness required to carry out God's perfect will. Simultaneously, the reader is encouraged to put aside false or excessive confidence in his or her own human abilities, and to boldly approach God to ask for His help in all situations.

The language of the Gospel of John is known for its complexity. On the basis of the modern standards of transparency and logic, previous scholars have depicted this language as obscure, confusing, and mysterious. Thomas Tops goes beyond these oversimplifications by providing an in-depth historical study of John's characterisation of Jesus' language with the terms paroimia and parr e sia . By providing original insights in these terms, the author offers a new perspective on the functioning of Johannine language. As the Johannine Jesus teaches both through paroimia and parr e sia , his language conceals and reveals at the same time. His criticism is veiled and calls on its addressees to search for the hidden meanings of his words. Veiled speech allows the Johannine Jesus to criticise his opponents and openly reveal his messianic identity to those who cannot accept the truth in any other way.
