This book "Our Town---Seward, Pennsylvania" is written because of all the work Dave Patterson has been doing on "We miss the old Seward"-web site. He has been bringing old and new Seward residents together talking about the good old days and getting reacquainted after years of not seeing or speaking. All the proceeds from this book will be given to the Seward Volunteer Fire Company for their truck fund, which is much needed.

This updated and revised book covers the gamut of Union County's history. It begins with the region's earliest days when the Delaware Indians were in residence and how the arrival of settlers, who ventured into this frontier area from Berks and Lancaster counties, marked the beginning of major changes. Synder's text, first published in 1976, has been expanded and updated to reflect newly discovered material on such groups as the Amish and the developments in Union County up to 2000. Distributed by Penn State University Press by arrangement with the Union County Historical Society.

For every major event or issue of the colonial period, newspapers printed the opinions of the day, in many cases attempting to influence public opinion. Issues such as medical discoveries, education, and censorship are covered in this collection along with important events such as the French and Indian War, the trial of John Peter Zenger, and the Boston Massacre. Each chapter introduces the event or issue and includes news articles, letters, essays, even poetry representing both sides of the argument as they affected Americans. Each document is preceded by an explanatory introduction. This is the only collection of primary source documents from colonial newspapers on the events of the era and will be a valuable tool for research and classroom discussion.
