Unit 1: In The Beginning In this unit, children will discover how God created all that we know in the universe. They will learn that we are created in God's image and are special and valuable. This unit explores the story of Noah and that God wants us to be obedient and faithful just as Noah was. Children will also discover there are seasons in life and we can depend on God through life changes. Unit 2: God Chooses a People Just as God was present with people in Bible times, God is also with us. Children will learn this concept as they explore the calling of Abraham and the beginning of Israel. Children will also realize that God wants us to be generous as they explore the story of Abraham and Lot in Canaan. Through the story of Abraham and Sarah, children will learn that God wants us to be patient; and the story of Isaac and Rebekah teaches that God has a plan for all our lives. Unit 3: Trusting God's Promises Through the account of Jacob and Esau, children will discover that God's love is the same for all people. Continuing with the narrative of the twin brothers and the birthright, children learn that God does not want us to be envious of others -- God is with us even when we do wrong, and because God forgives us, God wants us to forgive others. This unit also explores the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah, and children will discover that we can trust God's promises. Unit 1: Advent/Christmas Children will begin this unit with the story of angels bringing the message to Joseph of the impending birth of Jesus. They will learn the child Mary was carrying was the son of God and would deliver God's people from their sins. Through the account of Mary, Elizabeth, and John, children will discover that Christmas is a great time to share the good news of Jesus' birth. The story of the birth of Christ teaches children that Jesus is the Messiah that God promised; and narrative of the shepherds explains we should praise God for the gift of Jesus. Unit 2: The Life of Jesus Through the story of the wise men, children will learn that Jesus' birth shows God's love for all people. As they study the story of Jesus in the temple, children will discover that church is a place where they learn more about God and what God wants them to do and be. The account of Jesus' baptism shows that through baptism, God claims us as beloved children; and the story of Jesus in the wilderness shows us that Jesus demonstrates who God wants us to be and what God wants us to do. Unit 3: Jesus Begins His Ministry Soon after his baptism and his experience in the wilderness, Jesus began teaching in Galilee. The story of Jesus in the synagogue shows children that he came to teach us about God's love. Just as Jesus called his disciples, children will discover that Jesus calls us to tell others about God.
