The summer unit themes are special. Each unit will stand alone. Take the units in order or use them as your children's program needs them. Unit 1: Worship The boys and girls across all age levels will come to an understanding of the different parts of worshp--gathering, praising, praying, proclaiming the Word, and responding. Using the psalms and various New Testament references, the children will experience an understanding so that they can participate in their class worship as well as the corporate worship of the larger congregation. Unit 2: In the Holy City Jerusalem was a great city, even in ancient biblical times. In this unit the boys and girls will hear Bible stories that revolve around the Holy City. The first two stories take place after the Exile, when the people are returning to their homeland to find it in sad shape. Zerubabbel, the governor of the city, and Nehemiah both contribute to creating a new faith community on the ashes of the one before. In the third story the boys and girls will hear how Jesus came to the holy city as a boy to celebrate the Passover festival, and how in his enthusiasm to learn more about God, forgot to go home with his parents. In the last story, the children will hear about the first Christians who used jerusalem as the center of their operations and how the disciples continued to add more and more believers to their number every day. Unit 3: Favorite Bible Passages This unit includes five all time favorite Bible passages--John 3:16; the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12); Ask, Seek, and Knock (Matthew 7:7); Christ Strengthens (Philippians 4:13), and On Eagles' Wings (Isaiah 40:21-31). The Reproducible Activities Book includes eight reproducible sheets for each week, with a Bible story, activities for all age levels, and a page to send home.

Unit 1: In The Beginning In this unit, children will discover how God created all that we know in the universe. They will learn that we are created in God's image and are special and valuable. This unit explores the story of Noah and that God wants us to be obedient and faithful just as Noah was. Children will also discover there are seasons in life and we can depend on God through life changes. Unit 2: God Chooses a People Just as God was present with people in Bible times, God is also with us. Children will learn this concept as they explore the calling of Abraham and the beginning of Israel. Children will also realize that God wants us to be generous as they explore the story of Abraham and Lot in Canaan. Through the story of Abraham and Sarah, children will learn that God wants us to be patient; and the story of Isaac and Rebekah teaches that God has a plan for all our lives. Unit 3: Trusting God's Promises Through the account of Jacob and Esau, children will discover that God's love is the same for all people. Continuing with the narrative of the twin brothers and the birthright, children learn that God does not want us to be envious of others -- God is with us even when we do wrong, and because God forgives us, God wants us to forgive others. This unit also explores the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah, and children will discover that we can trust God's promises. The Leader's Guide is easy to teach with specific activities highlighted that require little preparation. Activities come from each of the four sections of the lesson providing a balanced teaching session. Sections are: Arrival Activities; Live God's Word; Bible Story Time; and Sending Forth.
