This study is the first volume in the new Philo of Alexandria Commentary Series. It contains a new English translation of Philo's famous treatise "On the creation of the cosmos" (the first for seventy years), and the first ever commentary in English. In this work the Jewish exegete and philosopher gives a selective exegesis of the Mosaic creation account and the events in Paradise as recorded in Genesis 1-3. It is the first preserved example of Hexaemeral literature, and had a profound influence on early Christian thought. The commentary aims to make Philo's thought accessible to readers such as graduate students who are just beginning to read him, but also contains much material that will be of interest to specialists in Hellenistic Judaism, ancient philosophy and patristic literature.

J. J. Johnson Leese discusses how the apostle Paul's writing on Christ's relationship to creation, read alongside the interpretations of Irenaeus of Lyon, provide a meaningful contribution to contemporary debates on the interrelationship between religion and nature. Leese draws upon the integration of three related scholarly trends – the increased importance placed on biblical creation themes, the emergence of ecotheology, and the history of reception – while focusing on the Pauline corpus and readings of Paul by Irenaeus, thus uncovering a robust creation and ecotheological theology. Irenaeus' approach provides the possibility for Paul to contribute to ecotheology, by way of a theological vision where the whole of reality in relationship to Christ and creation and by extension, to soteriology and ecclesiology, are central components of Paul's theology.

This work is a thesis that collects ancient versions about the origin of the universe, starting mainly from the Hebrew sources of the Hebrew Barashit (Genesis) and the Sumerian Enuma-Elis. Here I make a translation and review comparing it with the scientific theory of cosmic formation, to emphasize the great affinity between these ancient writings, and other stories, with the recent discoveries and postulates of science.

Moses and the Big Bang is a result of a lifelong interest in the subject of origins. On one hand, the scientific community digs deeply into the physics of the origin of the universe. On the other hand, the faithful Christians believe that God is the creator of all things. How can both be true? Do the findings of scientists support the concept of a creator God? That is the subject of this book.
