This publication describes the situation for vocational workplace language development in several eastern and western European countries.It notes the differences in political climate, industrial development and economic resources, and highlights the issues for second language provision in each country. Most importantly for practioners, it provides up-to-date guidelines for development of vocational and workplace language, based on international theory and practice.

Relevant les différences en termes de contexte politique, de développement industriel et de ressources économiques, elle souligne les questions liées à l'offre en deuxième langue qui se posent dans chaque pays, et propose des lignes directrices dans le contexte professionnel. Cette étude se fonde sur la conviction des auteurs que l'acquisition d'une deuxième langue joue un rôle clé pour l'intégration sociale et économique.

This book is a reflective account of the work of the European Centre for Modern Languages, Graz, during its first medium-term programme, which lasted from 2000 to 2003.It presents some of the major current issues in language education that were dealt with during this programme and provides insight into the way the projects run by the ECML tried to address these issues and to develop practical, usable approaches to dealing with them.

During 2001 the Council of Europe continued to consolidate democratic change and to assist the applicant countries in facilitation of their accession. Indeed, Armenia and Azerbaijan joined the Council on 25 January bringing the total member states to 43. At the same time it remained true to its original aim of achieving greater unity through cooperation. Areas discussed include: political affairs;strategic planning; legal affairs and local democracy; human rights; social cohesion; education, culture, youth, sport. Appendices include the texts adopted by the Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly, and the judgements delivered by the European Court of Human Rights.

This publication reflects the outcomes of a project which brought together experts and practitioners in the field of intercultural competence for professional mobility and which focused on group-oriented (teamwork) intercultural communication and interaction competencies.
