Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulation) (OSHA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulation) (OSHA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is amending its existing standards for occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica. OSHA has determined that employees exposed to respirable crystalline silica at the previous permissible exposure limits face a significant risk of material impairment to their health. The evidence in the record for this rulemaking indicates that workers exposed to respirable crystalline silica are at increased risk of developing silicosis and other non-malignant respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and kidney disease. This final rule establishes a new permissible exposure limit of 50 micrograms of respirable crystalline silica per cubic meter of air (50 μg/m 3) as an 8-hour time-weighted average in all industries covered by the rule. It also includes other provisions to protect employees, such as requirements for exposure assessment, methods for controlling exposure, respiratory protection, medical surveillance, hazard communication, and recordkeeping. This book contains: - The complete text of the Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulation) (OSHA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

Occupational exposures to respirable crystalline silica are associated with the development of silicosis, lung cancer, pulmonary tuberculosis, and airways diseases. These exposures may also be related to the development of autoimmune disorders, chronic renal disease, and other adverse health effects. Recent epidemiologic studies demonstrate that workers have a significant risk of developing chronic silicosis when they are exposed to respirable crystalline silica over a working lifetime at the current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible exposure limit (PEL), the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) PEL, or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommended exposure limit (REL). This NIOSH Hazard Review (1) examines the health risks and diseases associatied with occupational exposures to respirable crystalline silica, (2) discusses important findings of recent epidemiologic studies, (3) provides the reader with sources of more comprehensive information about health effects and experimental studies, (4) describes current analytical methods and their limitations for assessing occupational exposures to to respirable crystalline silica, and (5) suggests many areas for for further research

Occupational Exposure to Hexavalent Chromium (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulation) (OSHA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Occupational Exposure to Hexavalent Chromium (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulation) (OSHA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is amending the existing standard which limits occupational exposure to hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)). OSHA has determined based upon the best evidence currently available that at the current permissible exposure limit (PEL) for Cr(VI), workers face a significant risk to material impairment of their health. The evidence in the record for this rulemaking indicates that workers exposed to Cr(VI) are at an increased risk of developing lung cancer. The record also indicates that occupational exposure to Cr(VI) may result in asthma, and damage to the nasal epithelia and skin.
