Based on notes Stephen Hlasney jotted down into small books wherever the US Army took him - Great Britain, Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium and Germany. Hlasney filled the pages with ordinary happenings during an extraordinary time. Some of the conversations he scribbled down may seem pointless to modern readers, but the author wrote what he and his pals were feeling at that moment, in that time and place. A few at a time Hlasney shipped the filled notebooks home, tucked among other items in packages to his mother and his girlfriend, Anne. From his perspective as an armorer, Hlasney offers a unique view of the war.
