Musical Worlds in Yogyakarta addresses themes of social identity and power, counterpoising Pierre Bourdieu’s theories on class, gender and nation with the author’s alternative perspectives of inter-group social capital, physicality and grounded cosmopolitanism. The author argues that Yogyakarta is exemplary of how everyday people make use of music to negotiate issues of power and at the same time promote peace and intergroup appreciation in culturallydiverse inner-city settings.

Mohammad Al Ghazoli was raised a Muslim. But the more he read the ancient literature of Islam, the more convinced he became that Allah could not be the True God. And the more he studied the life of Muhammad, the more obvious it became that Muhammad was not God's prophet. Then one day, someone placed a Bible in his hands and said, "Read." Soon Ghazoli had found the True God, and forgiveness through His Son. This book isn't just Ghazoli's testimony. It is much more than that. It contains the facts from the literature of Islam that shows why Allah can't possibly be the True God. It gives proof from Islam itself that whenever Muhammad wanted more wives, or riches, or when he had a problem, Gabriel was always standing by, ready to give another verse to exempt Muhammad from the law and morality. How convenient! Many of the stories in the book will be unfamiliar to the Western reader, but very familiar to Muslims. It is this inside view of things that makes the book so powerful as a witnessing tool for Muslims. Over and over again, Ghazoli asks, Is this the behavior of a prophet who was sent by God? What kind of god would send a prophet like that? The arguments contained in this book will give you powerful evidence you can show to Muslims you may try to witness to. Because it is written by a respected Arab writer, who was an advisor to the Arab league and even to Libyan ruler Qhadaffi, you can give the book to a Muslim and tell him, "Read." Learn about: The 220 contradictions in the Quran. Verses which reverse and replace prior verses. Did Allah make a mistake? The verses used to justify terrorism. Even the Quran admits Jesus was crucified! Then it denies it. Muhammad's 23 marriages, including one to a little girl.

In the heart of summer, in the dead of night, something wakes you. The house is quiet. The children are sleeping. The kitchen is empty. Except for the body on the floor. A series of brutal home invasions is terrorizing the Peak District. Until now, the burglars haven't left a clue. This time, they've left a corpse. But as the death toll rises, two intrepid cops begin to suspect that the robberies - and the murders - are not what they seem. Beneath the scorching summer sun, a dangerous game is in play . . . and a merciless killer is hiding in plain sight. Packed with twists, suspense, and danger, The Devil's Edge is a gripping thriller to rival the very best of Peter Robinson and Peter James. In 1976 Dutch textile specialist Rens Heringa first visited Kerek in rural East Java and discovered a region where--unlike the rest of Java--the full range of textiles with woven patterning, as well as the only batik still made on handwoven cotton cloth, continued to be produced for local use. Each type of cloth made in Kerek is created for a specific purpose--to be worn by a person of a particular age, social, or residential group; to serve in life-cycle events such as marriage or funerals; to act as a focal point in agricultural ceremonies or curing rites. The functions, techniques, patterning, and especially the color combinations of the cloth all form part of a highly structured and elaborate system of belief that is remarkably integrated with the community's social organization, mythology, and ritual practices. Remnants of similarly integrated systems of belief are known from many parts of Java, but by the late 20th century the full system could be observed only in Kerek. Batik from Kerek today represents the antecedents of the courtly and urban batik found in collections around the world.
