"These thirteen essays comprise a richly patterned 'quilt,' expertly addressing the influence of Mexico and Latin and South America upon the North American imagination. . . . Cecil Robinson's impressive breadth of expertise, his fascinating interpretations, make this collection of essays invaluable regional reading. The bibliography alone is a treasure—a gift from a man whose life's work was to form a bridge of humanistic understanding between the two primary cultures of the New World."—El Palacio "In graceful prose, the longtime English professor leads readers on a leisurely stroll through the literary landscape of the Southwest."—Journal of Arizona History "Does more for reconstructing American literature than any of the contemporary American literature anthologies that are on the market today. . . . Strongly recommended."—Choice

This book takes the reader for a short journey over the structures of matter showing that their main properties can be obtained even at a quantitative level with a minimum background knowledge. The latter, besides some high school physics and mathematics, consists of the three cornerstones of science presented in chapters 1 to 3, namely the atomic idea, the wave-particle duality, and the minimization of energy as the condition for equilibrium. Dimensional analysis employing the universal constants and combined with “a little imagination and thinking”, to quote Feynman, allows an amazing short-cut derivation of several quantitative results concerning the structures of matter. This book is expected to be of interest to physics, engineering, and other science students and to researchers in physics, material science, chemistry, and engineering who may find stimulating the alternative derivation of several real world results, which sometimes seem to pop out the magician’s hat.

A friend on our path of mindfulness practice, Richard Brady shares one of the first deeply personal accounts of a lay practitioner following in the steps of world-renowned Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Short Journey Home presents a powerful story of transformation, rooted in the author’s long-term and life-changing practice with Thich Nhat Hanh. Richard Brady guides us through his life experiences and lessons learned, offering strikingly deep and sincere accounts of: his time spent with Thich Nhat Hanh and with senior monastics, his successes and difficulties with community building, practicing with family, working with death, and sharing the practice with others. Brady skillfully grounds his stories in direct teachings offered by Thich Nhat Hanh, and he organizes these stories according to some of Thich Nhat Hanh’s most powerful lessons on topics like impermanence, interbeing, and transformation. By taking these teachings to heart, practicing with them diligently, and sharing the results, Brady acts as our spiritual companion, demonstrating how the Plum Village path of practice can lead us to peace, freedom, and awakening in this present moment.
