The contents of the book presents an extensive view of Indian life and thought.

This pioneering study, still the most comprehensive to date, chronicles the history of Theravada Buddhism in Burma, based on epigraphic, archaeological and literary sources, in particular through examination of Pali and Sanskrit inscriptions.
