Saw a letter from Alexander Hamilton to George Washington and the Directors of the Branch Banks that Genl Schuyler has a credit for 3500 Dollars for the purchase of goods for the use of the Six Nations. Has written to Schuyler, who is unaware of this situation, but promises to give me the business if it comes under his direction. Offers his services to Knox. Heard rumors of one or two frigates being built in New York. Recommends Captain Anthony Rutgers for the superintendency of the work. Wants to be thought of for the job of payment of accounts or purchaser of materials. Has recently made a partnership with Frederick Babcock. Free stamped on address leaf with no signature.

Will mention his application to the Secretary of the Treasury, whose department handles the purchasing of supplies. Hoffman had offered supplies the government was to send to the Six Nations (see GLC02437.06024). Will also mentions Hoffman's application if the government decides to build frigates in New York. Wants Hoffman to check on his brother William who is labouring under a depression of Spirits in New York. Asks that William be sent on to Philadelphia. Wants Hoffman to send an update as well.

Received Knox's recent letter. Reports that Colonel [Ebenezer] Stevens is out of town, but he will return within a couple of days, and will present Knox's draft to Stevens at that time. Adds that his family is well, and sends his regards to Mrs. Knox.

Introduces Knox to an acquaintance of his from Yorkshire, England. Writes, as he is a stranger in your city I beg leave to recommend him to your notice and civility.
