The third edition of this work sets out a comprehensive and analytical manual of international humanitarian law, accompanied by case analysis and extensive explanatory commentary by a team of distinguished and internationally renowned experts.

This book examines the development of international humanitarian law (IHL), the protection of the victims of armed conflict, the IHL from a Third World perspective, the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution under Islamic law and the issues faced in implementing IHL.

This database provides documentation and commentaries concerning the implementation of international humanitarian law at the national level. The number of States included will steadily increase over time. The content is drawn from information available to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Advisory Service on International Humanitarian Law.

This report aims to compile information about relevant measures employed in the implementation of IHL in Germany, without being exhaustive. It therefore addresses the status of IHL in the German legal system, the status and control of the German armed forces as well as measures concerning, inter alia, the protection of civilians and civilian property, and the dissemination and enforcement of IHL. The report will appeal to anyone with an interest in IHL, including government officials, parliamentarians, the staff of non-governmental organisations, academics, journalists and the general public both in and outside Germany.
