Many children travel through the foster care system completely alone, with no one to help them get the support they need and/or to help them fight for their rights, both in court and in the foster care system. Some children, however, are lucky enough to be represented by a court-appointed special advocate or a guardian ad litem - volunteers who devote themselves to helping children who cannot help themselves.
