Department of Revenue was created as the central collection agency for state revenues. The Director provides for the collection of motor vehicle registration fees, driver license fees, motor vehicle sales and use tax, and other taxes. License Office Bureau, under the management of the Division of Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing, is responsible for administrating the operations of 183 contract license offices throughout the state. Contract agents do not receive compensation from the DOR, but do receive fees, set by statute.

Director of Revenue shall make provisions for the collection of the motor vehicle registration fees, sales and use taxes, and all other taxes. To facilitate the registration of each motor vehicle, outboard motor, and motorboat in the state, the Bureaus of Motor Vehicle and Field Services were established under the administration of the Division of Motor Vehicle and Drivers Licensing. Their are 11 branch offices and 168 fee offices throughout the state.

Motor Vehicle Division of the Department of Revenue was established in the Missouri Constitution of 1945. It is responsible for titling and licensing all motor vehicles in the State of Missouri and supplies this information to law enforcement agencies. There are nine branches (operated by the division) and 151 fee offices (operated by individuals) located throughout the State.
