The assessment of the ecological integrity of running waters is a prerequisite to an understanding of the effects of human alterations. The evaluation of degradation processes provides key information on how to avoid further negative impacts. The success of future conservation, mitigation and restoration activities will rely on sound assessment methodologies and their ecological relevance and applicability. Assessment methodologies are therefore an integral part of sustainable river management. This book synthesizes and discusses state-of-the-art experiences in assessment methodologies. Bill Streever, author of Bringing Back the Wetlands and numerous technical articles about wetland restoration and creation, worked for two years to bring together this collection of papers. For the first time, one volume offers an impression of the magnitude and diversity of the field of wetland rehabilitation around the globe.

This literature review has been compiled in response to a request for an update on interactions between aquatic macrophytes and fish and aims to assist fishery planners, managers, field specialists and other interested in this topic. The sources are listed in full.
