Estos sistemas también son conocidos como PMS (Project Management Software, por sus siglas en ingles PMS) y se ha demostrado que tienen un impacto positivo en el rendimiento de los proyectos. Sin embargo, se debe tener en consideración algunos detalles como que la elección del PMS y tener claro que las funcionalidades de los PMS varían enormemente. Para la investigación se tiene un paradigma mixto y con un diseño de metodología secuencial explicativo. Se inicia con la colección y análisis de datos cuantitativos, a través de encuestas repartidas por redes sociales, para luego seguir con entrevistas a expertos del tema. Finalmente se realiza la interpretación usando los resultados cualitativos para confirmar y detallar los resultados cuantitativos. En algunos casos de la etapa cuantitativa se utiliza el principio de Pareto para la elección de opciones. Con los resultados de la investigación, procede realizar un análisis de PMS actuales consideradas aplicables a proyectos. De los cuales se realiza un filtro en base a los resultados de la investigación para proponer un listado sugerido, en base a sus características. Siendo el listado y el modelo checklist el aporte a los administradores de proyectos".
