Excerpt from Mineral Resources of the United States, 1927, Vol. 2: Nonmetals The production of fuel briquets in 1927 was net tons' valued at according to reports courteously furnished by the operators of briquetting plants. In comparison with 1926, the production showed a decrease of tons, but in comparison with 1925, an increase of and with 1924, an increase of As demand in 1926 had been artificially stimulated by the anthracite strike, a decrease in 1927-was anticipated. That the sales of briquets declined only per cent below the level of the strike year at a time when anthracite was in abundant supply is an indication of the progress of the briquetting industry. In fact, production in the month of December, 1927, which amounted to tons, set a new monthly record, exceeding by tons the maximum monthly production of 1926. As shown by the following table, the decrease from 1926 was con fined to the Eastern States; on the Pacific coast and in the Central States production in 1927 showed an increase of about 9 per cent.
