Due to the June 1867 fire that destroyed the Probate Office, early marriages in Monroe County, Ohio are difficult to locate. This book is an attempt to reconstruct the early records to fill in the information from those missing years. The author extracted marriage dates and information from marriage notices, family research, pension records, and county histories.

In June of 1867, a devastating fire occurred in the county seat of Monroe County, Ohio. The fire destroyed more than 50 years of marriages, estates and wills. In an effort to recapture the lost records, we have compiled information from other sources.
