Here, in one volume, are the two extraordinary novels that first introduced maverick FBI Special Agent Mark Beamon to readers coast-to-coast, and rocketed Kyle Mills into the upper echelon of thriller writers. Ingenious page-turning tales of conspiracy and terror, they remain as spellbinding, blood-chilling, timely, and relentlessly exciting as when they first appeared in print -- fulfilling Frederick Forsyth's prophecy that "Kyle Mills will soon be a very big player." Rising Phoenix: A shadowy right-wing organization is flooding America's emergency rooms with the dead and dying, and FBI Agent Mark Beamon must stop the slaughter and its mastermind . . . who may be a former law enforcement colleague. Storming Heaven: The brutal murder of a local millionaire and his wife sends agent Mark Beamon into the dark world of a powerful cult . . . and into the heart of a terrifying conspiracy that could bring America to her knees.

This study explodes prevailing myths about the Phoenix Program, the CIA's top-secret effort to destroy the Viet Cong by neutralizing its "civilian" leaders. Drawing on recently declassified documents and interviews with American, South Vietnamese, and North Vietnamese sources, Mark Moyar examines the attempts to eradicate the Viet Cong infrastructure and analyzes their effectiveness. He addresses misconceptions about these efforts and provides an accurate, complete picture of the allies' decapitation of the Viet Cong shadow government. Combining social and political history with a study of military operations, Moyar offers a fresh interpretation of the crucial role the shadow government played in the Viet Cong's ascent. Detailed accounts of intelligence operations provide an insider's view of their development and reveal what really happened in the safe havens of the Viet Cong. Filled with new information, Moyar's study sets the record straight about one of the last secrets of the Vietnam War and offers poignant lessons for dealing with future Third World insurgencies. This Bison Books edition includes a new preface and chapter by the author.

In his sixth collection, Mark Halliday continues to seek ways of using the smart playfulness of such poets as Frank O’Hara and Kenneth Koch to explore life’s emotional mysteries—both dire and hilarious—from the perpetual dissolving of our past to the perpetual frustration of our cravings for ego-triumph, for sublime connection with an erotically idealized Other, and for peace of spirit. Animated by belief in the possible truths to be reached in interpersonal speech, Halliday’s voice-driven poetry wants to find insight—or at least a stay against confusion—through personality without being trapped in personality. History will leave much of what we are on the threshing floor, Halliday notes, but in the meantime we do what we can; let posterity (if any!) say we rambled truly. The Demon of Table Mesa Book II By: John Waddell Jacob and his two friends play an old spirit board game they found in the attic. As the three become immersed in the game, they become a part of a story about Jacob’s ancestors who were involved in a massacre of a Native American village. The village existed in the 1800s during the Indian wars. Jacob’s home sits across the street from where the village once stood. They meet two spirits while playing the game. Shappa, Jacob’s spirit guide and Dzaovits the demon. The demon plans to kill Jacob as revenge for crimes Jacob’s ancestors committed against his people. Jacob must travel through the “Portal to When” to 1852, to undue the injustices of the past. After arriving in the past, Jacob is adopted by the leader of the village Chief White Lightning. The Chief guides him through his “Rites to Pathway” into adulthood. When White Lightning first meets Jacob, he sees that he has leadership abilities. He teaches him leadership and survival skills that he will need during his encounters with the demon. Jacob encounters true evil in his interactions with Dzaovits. In turn he learns about the good and evil within himself.
