Excerpt from Hydrated Lime: History, Manufacture and Uses in Plaster, Mortar, Concrete; A Manual for the Architect, Engineer, Contractor and Builder Lime, which possesses many advantages over the older Lump Lime. The art of using lime is one of the very oldest connected with the building trade and was probably brought to its greatest perfection by the Greeks and Romans. Since-these ancient times until very recently little or no improvement has been introduced in the preparation of plaster or stucco made from lime. Probably the reason for this is the time and care required to slake the lump lime used to prepare the mortar. With the use of hydrated lime the time required to slake and age the quick lime is done away with. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Limes and Cements: Their Nature, Manufacture and Use; An Elementary Treatise This brief account of the nature, manufacture and uses of limes and other calcareous cements is an endeavour to present a useful elementary 'treatise which, while suited to the needs of the beginner, shall contain as full an account of the subject as is possible, in the limited amount of space available; and, as the author believes, contains very little that the reader will have to unlearn as his knowledge increases. It is, of course, impossible in a volume of this size to give a full account of the details necessary to the specialist, but the bibliography included at the beginning of the work indicates the sources of information available for those who desire to know more. Excerpt from Prentice-Hall Tax Service for 1919 This allowance is not based upon the difference between the actual war cost of such facilities and what they would have cost at pre-war prices. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. As the rule is expressed in Article 183 of the Regulations: The total amount to be extinguished by amortization, in general, is the excess of the unextinguished or unrecovered cost of the property over its maximum value (either for sale or for use as part of the plant or equipment of a going business) under stable post war. Excerpt from Lime and Cement Industries of New York, And, Chapters on the Cement Industry in New York Many quarries have been visited, and samples collected for analysis; and, while the chemical work has not been carried out in as much detail as might have been desired, still it is hoped that the analyses given may serve to prevent useless search in unpromising localities. In the preparation of that portion of the report relating to the testing and manufacture of cement the writer has drawn freely on many of the works referred to in the body of the report.
