El diseño metodológico utilizado en la conceptuación de este trabajo de disertación fue el desarrollo de un tratamiento que instruya a los profesionales clínicos (psicólogos, terapeutas/consejeros, trabajadores sociales clínicos) hacia la implementación de intervenciones personalizadas que respondan a las necesidades de su cliente mediante e desarrollo de un manual clínuco y psicoeducatio. Este proyecto intenta contribuir en el desarrollo de destrezas que aumenten la capacidad y competencias del clínico en el manejo de los casos de trauma complejo en adolescentes, de manera que esto resulte en intervenciones terapéuticas que incrementen las posibilidades de recuperación y adaptación emocional del cliente y su entorno. Como herramienta teórica, este manual provee información básica que permite adquirir conocimientos sobre los términos medulares al tema, diagnósticos asociados, medidas de cernimiento y modelos de intervenció basados en la evidencia. Como herramienta práctica, el manual ofrece el desarrollo de destrezas y habilidades clínicas traducidas al escenario terapéutico en forma de actividades. Estas actividades ayudarán a promover y a facilitar una intervención certera. Las mismas, se dividen en unidades y serán guiadas por objetivos específicos. Asismismo, mantienen un apoyo empírico y observan la sensibilidad cultural con el propósito de mantener su eficacia.

A través del tiempo la psicología ha desarrollado criterios diagnósticos relacionados a trastornos de ansiedad, de estrés y de trauma. No obstante, la literatura ha trascendido identificando cómo en el caso del trauma, el elemento de la multiplicidad de experiencias traumáticas, impacta en la sintomatología experimentada de cada individuo. Este trabajo tuvo como propósito ofrecer a los profesionales de la salud una herramienta de intervención basado en evidencia según el Modelo Cognitivo Conductual en terapia de grupo para trabajar con los elementos y la sintomatología presentada por un trauma complejo. Actualmente en Puerto Rico y en la profesión de la salud mental, no se ha reconocido el trauma complejo como un diagnóstico según la profesión y es por esto que la mayoría de las intervenciones ofrecidas, van dirigidas a trabajar con sintomatología general vinculada al Trastorno de Estrés Post-Traumático. Por lo cual se recomienda poner en práctica este modelo de intervención para estudiar su eficacia con mujeres adultas puertorriqueñas víctimas del trauma complejo.
