Interconnected stories exploring life, love, and passion in an ever-changing community. Esperanza Cintrón's Shades: Detroit Love Storiesis a short story collection that is distinctly Detroit. By touching on a number of romantic and sexual encounters that span the historical and temporal spaces of the city, each of these interconnected stories examines the obstacles an individual faces and the choices he or she makes in order to cope and, hopefully, survive in the changing urban landscape. Shades begins in the 1960s by following two young black women who are determined to find joy in their lives even as they struggle to make ends meet. Their lives continue to evolve under triumphant and disappointing conditions—falling in and out of love, giving birth, raising children, and struggling to "make it" despite disappointing and tenuous love affairs and relationships. The setting throughout the eighteen stories shifts as these women age and their children extend the timeline, reflecting on the city's social and political changes over three decades, as well as the pitfalls, tragedies, and opportunities these linked families encounter. Cintrón favors an everyday vernacular for her characters' voices in order to reflect the complexities of their working/middle-class, ethnic, and racial identities. Divided into two sections, Eastside and Westside, the collection gives a nod to the sometimes contentious geographical split marked by Woodward Avenue. Cintrón takes readers through city streets—from neighborhood bars to burger joints—while painting lyrical portraits of the unique and multifaceted characters whose honesty shatters the illusion of endless love and happily-ever-after fantasies, as they clash with the circumstances of economics and race. Cintrón's stories capture the rhythms of language and the poetry of the people and will interest readers of fiction or poetry who seek to understand love.

Marriage is God's idea. He has no bad ideas. He brought Eve to Adam, married them and they lived as husband and wife for over 900 years (Genesis 2:21-25 and 5:5). By this, we can conclude that divorce was not God's idea but Satan's idea, to destroy God's ideas, plans and purpose of marriage between a man and a woman. We seek to find the right person when the greater picture is to be the right person. Man sets the time for the wedding, but God sets the time for the marriage. There is a great difference between a wedding and a marriage. Many walk down the aisle to be wedded for all the wrong reasons. Saying "I do" and placing wedding rings upon fingers does not always mean they are married within their hearts. This book reveals that a man and a woman may marry, and yet not be a true husband and wife. It stresses the importance of friendship, courtship, engagement and being married from the heart. Introducing a revolutionary approach to the covenant of marriage, this book addresses commitment, romance, love, keeping a right heart, a sound mind and a pure relationship. Dr. Donald R. Downing is a heart physician and specialist from God to the body of Christ. He has written over 12 books, and considers Marriage from the Heart to be one of his most important writings. He believes the only way to defeat the high rate of divorce and separation is to restore romance to the relationship and to be truly married from the heart. FEATURING DRS. MELVIN AND ROBIN THORNHILL Melvin and Robin Thornhill are the founders and presidents of Destiny New Image Ministries. They have a combined 50 years of experience in family and marriage counseling.

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."1 Cor. 13:12The Cycle is about one man's journey as a "child of God". It contains personal reflections, written under the inspiration of God, in poetic form. Each poem is preceded by a corresponding scripture (or two) from the King James Bible. These scriptural references give a reference for devotional study or for simply seeing how the poem relates to the Bible. You will journey through ups and downs, condemnation and redemption, sadness and joy. The feelings of life are brought to bear in an explicit manner that tugs at the fabric of the soul. It is the feeling of going through and coming out...It is the feeling of...The Cycle.

Young is unapologetically blunt as she shares an honest insight into a not so perfect and far from normal life of a real woman starting at puberty and goping through all the different stages and events that life throws in people's way. Life In A Nutshell removes the blinders from readers' eyes, tossing out the great expectations they may have in life and exposing the often harsh realities of life. Do fairytales happen to anyone else other than Cinderella? It would be pure whimsy to think so. But life is what one makes it to be. It can still be a fairytale, somewhat lopsided and unconventional, still with its own imperfect but happy ending.
