Auction catalogue of 20th Century Modern Art and Modern Design

The February 21, 2016 Modern Art & Design Auction featuring Frank Lloyd Wright's George D. Sturges Residence and property from the Estate of Jack Larson to benefit The Bridges/Larson Foundation. Additional highlights in the auction include a major work by Richard Prince, Bedtime Story (1988) from the series of Monochromatic Joke Paintings, as well as important works by Mary Corse, John McLaughlin, Robert Rauschenberg, Harry Bertoia, Tony Berlant, Robert Adams, and Vija Celmins. Design highlights include a rare Alberto Giacometti floor lamp, a Dan Johnson Gazelle table, a KEM Weber Airline chair, and designs by George Nakashima. Decorative arts offerings include jewelry by Ibram Lassaw, and early ceramics by Gertrud & Otto Natzler.

This expertly curated auction of just over 350 lots features a rare Chess table by Isamu Noguchi complete with sculpted aluminum tray and original finish; over ten works by Robert Rauschenberg, including Lattice (Hoarfrost) , a unique textile collage from 1975; an Alexander Calder brooch and a Jean Arp brooch, each with outstanding provenance; in addition to a group of 14 American Arts & Crafts designs, a great majority of which were gifts from Max Palevsky, to be sold by The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to benefit future acquisitions. The sale also features a comprehensive grouping of over 50 lots of Art Deco furniture, lighting, and decorative objects from c. 1920 – 1940.

The May 17, 2015 Modern Art & Design Auction features an impressive Alexander Calder sculpture from 1976, Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup I, a 1968 complete portfolio of ten silkscreen prints on paper, as well as Mao (1973) and $ (1982). Additional highlights include an Agnes Martin watercolor from 1977, a Sam Maloof Fiddleback maple rocking chair, paintings by Karl Benjamin and June Harwood, Pablo Picasso ceramics, and a selection of custom George Nakashima furnishings.
