Nuestra segunda vida en el mundo digital, la comida genéticamente modificada, las prótesis de nueva generación y las tecnologías reproductivas son aspectos ya familiares de la condición posthumana. Ya que se han borrado las fronteras entre aquello que es humano y aquello que no lo es, poniendo en evidencia la base no natural del ser humano actual. Desde el punto de vista de la Filosofía y la Teoría Política, urge actualizar las definiciones de identidad y los fenómenos sociales a raíz de este salto. Con un simple análisis se verá que después de haber constatado el fin del Humanismo, es preciso ver en esta transformación las malas intenciones de una colonización de la vida por parte de los mercados y su lógica del beneficio. Es preciso, pues, adecuar la teoría a los cambios en curso, sin añoranzas por una humanidad ahora perdida y cogiendo las oportunidades ofrecidas por las formas de Neohumanismo que nacen de los movimientos medio ambientales y de los Estudios de Género y Postcoloniales.

PostDomestiCity is an inquiry and speculative exercise into the conditions of obsolescence in the post-industrial city, from a contemporary perspective. Working with three paradigmatic cases that were conceived from industrial logics—the Packard plant in Detroit, Lima’s PREVI neighbourhood, and theGrand’Mare complex in Rouen—, we explore alternative ways of reusing, reprogramming, and redensifying the built environment as alternatives to demolition. Relevant voices in the field of architecture share their approaches and visions of the future for the pre-existing city, helping us imagine post-domesticity in the current climate crisis and socio-technological context. This book deals with one of the most pressing social and environmental issues that we face today. The transition to a post-carbon society, in which the consumption of fossil fuels decreases over time, has become an inevitability due to the need to prevent catastrophic climate change, the increasing cost and scarcity of energy, and complex combinations of both of these factors. As the authors point out, this will not only entail political adjustments and the replacement of some technologies by others, but will be accompanied by social and cultural changes that bring about substantial modifications in our societies and ways of life. This book examines whether the current conditions, which date back to the crisis that began in 2007, favour a benign and smooth transition or will make it more difficult and prone to conflict. It argues that, even if this transformation is unavoidable, the directions it will take and the resulting social forms are much less certain. There will be many post-carbon societies, the authors conclude, and any number of routes to social change. Transitioning to a Post-Carbon Society therefore represents a significant contribution to global debates on the environment, and is vital reading for academics, policymakers, business leaders, NGOs and the general public alike.

The infinite multiplicity of existing life forms calls for equally multiple approaches to studying the living. However, no approach will ever be capable of exhausting the various perspectives required for research on life. This impossibility is not only given by the unmanageable task of establishing an infinitely multidisciplinary approach but also by the diverse and ever-changing subject matters that can potentially fall under the category of the living. This book is nevertheless an e ort in that direction: acknowledging a multiplicity of ways in which life forms may be studied, and a diversity of disciplinary perspectives suited for this task.

The reactive scattering for H- + H2 and H+ + H2 and its isotopologues were investigated using different methods. The studies aimed at providing insights into elementary reactions, and go beyond these to more complexchemical reactions. By comparison of the reaction probabilities of H+ + H2 using adiabatic and non-adiabatic methods, it was found that, at low collision energies, the reaction preferentially occurs adiabatically, but at higher collision energies non-adiabatic effects should be taken into account. For H- + H2 and its isotopologues, we can see that, at low collision energies, the reaction probabilities and reaction cross section using SM-PES and AY-PES are very similar but different from PS-PES. The reaction cross sections investigated with quasi-classical trajectoriesare higher than those calculated with quantum wavepackets. For the collision H- and D- with HD, the main reaction path ways are different with the different collision energies.

This book analyzes the culture wars as those struggles for the monopoly of the legitimate representation of the world in the normative elucidation of controversial issues linked to values. Public culture in this context would consist of a set of complex classificatory systems of symbols and meanings that constitute a semantic field in permanent dynamic tension. In this work we analyze a whole series of lines of cultural conflict such as the social and semantic genesis of the different forms of “culture war” from the thesis of “modern polytheism” pointed out by Max Weber at the beginning of the 20th century to the national culture wars and the current global culture wars; the social production of truth and the clash with the epistemological tribalisms; the struggles between the new warrior gods, daimons and demons that emerge in modern societies; the struggles of fusion and fission on the symbolic battlefield of “Europe”; the struggles between “pioneers” and “gatekeepers” to define the limits of human nature; the struggles between utopias and dystopias that colonize the present future. This book will be of great help to anybody looking for key interpretations on the nature and structure of modern conflicts in contemporary societies.
