My Husband Betty is the first book to explore the relationships of crossdressing men and their female partners. Known traditionally as transvestites, men like Helen Boyd's husband are starting to come out and win the respect of friends, family, and society - even if their behavior still baffles mental health professionals and the crossdressers themselves. Boyd explains the "taxonomy" of the transgendered, the distinct societies within the transgendered community, the effects of the closet, sexuality, and the issues faced by the wives and girlfriends of crossdressing men. Helen's own experience is at the heart of this book, her story complemented and contradicted by interviews with crossdressers, drag queens, "tranny chasers," and other transgendered couples.

Alice in Genderland is the first ever memoir by a crossdresser who is not content to live behind closed doors—and who takes it much further than his straighter, more circumspect peers might ever care to go. Most of the time, Harvard-educated psychiatrist Richard Novic is Rick, a caring doctor at the office and a loving husband and father at home. But one night a week, he is Alice, a brave trans woman about town, shopping, dining, dancing, and more. In contrast to the life he leads today, Rick Novic suffered since his sporty, nerdy boyhood with a secret, a desire he was in no way equipped to handle, but one that eventually burst through his denial, a few months before his wedding day. Just once, he felt, while he still could, he had to know how it felt to be a woman. Like Alice in Wonderland, his curiosity led him to fall headlong down a rabbit hole, through desperate straits, mind-opening surprises, heart-rending changes, gritty sex, and boundless love. By the time he was back on his feet, he was a different person, living a lifestyle he hadn’t known existed. Anyone who has struggled to figure out who they are and how they want to live will surely appreciate this informative and engaging life story. Praise for Alice in Genderland “Few know the transgender scene like GIRL TALK magazine’s Alice Novic. This exciting new memoir by her male alter ego takes us along with him and the people he loves, as he encounters and explores each twist and turn around him and within him. As much Lewis and Clark as it is Lewis Carroll, Alice in Genderland blazes a new trail in the world of crossdressing.” —Linda Jensen, contributing writer, Transgender Forum “Alice bravely explores the limits of gender, sexuality, and relationships—a sexy, poignant, and often hilarious memoir of transgenderism.” —Vernon A. Rosario, M.D., author of The Erotic Imagination, clinical faculty, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute “More provocative than soothing, Alice in Genderland is fascinating and well worth reading.” —Vern L. Bullough, Ph.D., author of Crossdressing, Sex, and Gender, past president of the Society of the Scientific Study of Sex

Male feminization for fun and growth? Why not? It's a question that critical thinkers ask about many subjects. Everyday there's someone who sees something and instead of saying no they ask, why not? What if the Wright brothers agreed with everyone that man can't fly? What if Henry Ford believed like everyone else that there could be no mass production? What if Galileo gave up on the idea that the world is round and not flat like the Church wanted him to? If something can be beneficial for you or others, but the accepted societal view says it's wrong, does that really make it wrong? Male-to-female crossdressing is one of those things. Sometimes viewed as an unmanly due to societal paradigms and beliefs and called a deviant behavior, it's carried a stigma with it. Does that mean it shouldn't be done? Women are allowed to cross-dress; it has become commonplace for women to wear men's styles of clothing, yet men are forced to stay in men's clothes. Dresses, skirts, stockings and all the feminine accoutrements have fallen to the wayside for most women today, and it's perfectly acceptable for them to wear flannel shirts with jeans, or sweatpants with sneakers or flat shoes. Why not? Why shouldn't a male be offered the same flexibility? Until the time comes when open-mindedness is more prevalent, and paradigms and beliefs are changed, it's still possible to do in secret or with likeminded people and groups, and the benefits are just as great. To balance the individual's masculine and feminine energies and activate the rise on Maslow's hierarchy of needs is not a trivial thing, and that is just one of many benefits it brings. If you, a person close to you, a spouse or partner, or a friend of yours is involved in male-to-female crossdressing, has an interest in it, or is bored and wants to try something new and exciting, then drop the veil of illusions by creating a new feminine illusion and thrive. Read on and see what benefits can follow in this thoughtful short read that just might improve your or someone else's life-or at least help you understand it better. Look inside now.

In any society, the perception of femininity and masculinity is not necessarily dependent on female or male genitalia. Cross dressing, gender impersonation, and long-term masquerades of the opposite sex are commonplace throughout history. In contemporary American culture, the behavior occurs most often among male heterosexuals and homosexuals, sometimes for erotic pleasure, sometimes not. In the past, however, cross dressing was for the most part practiced more often by women than men. Although males often burlesqued women and gave comic impersonations of them, they rarely attempted a change of public gender until the twentieth century. This phenomenon, according to Vern L. Bullough and Bonnie Bullough, has implications for any understanding of the changing relationships between the sexes in the twentieth century. In most Western societies, being a man and demonstrating masculinity is more highly prized than being a woman and displaying femininity. Some non-Western societies, however, are more tolerant and even encourage men to behave like women and women to act like men. Cross Dressing, Sex, and Gender not only surveys cross dressing and gender impersonation throughout history and in a variety of cultures but also examines the medical, biological, psychological, and sociological findings that have been presented in the modern scientific literature. This volume offers the results of the authors' research into contemporary gender issues and the search for explanations. After examining the various current theories regarding cross dressing and gender impersonation, the Bulloughs offer their own theory. This book, widely deemed a classic in its field, is the culmination of thirty years of research by the Bulloughs into gender impersonation and cross dressing. Their groundbreaking findings will be of interest to anyone involved in the debate over nature versus nurture, and have implications not only for scholars in the various social sciences and sex and gender studies, but for educators, nurses, physicians, feminists, gays, lesbians, and general readers. This work will be of more personal interest to anyone who identifies as a transvestite or transsexual or who has been classified by medical and psychiatric professionals as suffering from gender dysphoria. Cross Dressing, Sex, and Gender covers a wide range of cultures and periods. As the first comprehensive attempt to examine the phenomenon of cross dressing, it will be of interest to students and scholars of social history, sociology, nursing, and women's studies.
