'Little Eve Edgarton' is a tale about an explorer's daughter and her not-so-simple romance. Is beauty only skin deep? And what happens if it is?Eve Edgarton is not who she seems she is. A short encounter with Mr. Barton show that first impressions are not always right or indicative of one's seemingly obvious preference or one's proclivity.Eleanor Hallowell Abbott (Mrs. Fordyce Coburn) was a nationally recognized American author. She was a frequent contributor to The Ladies' Home Journal. Abbott gives a unique style and aims for spontaneity and originality. She writes with extreme vivacity and startling imagery. Abbott would not allow her work to be published unless she truly liked it herself. Her chief concern while writing was to use her own feeling about the story she was working on. Due to this unique style, many critics comment that even though her work is charming it can feel to be sometimes forced. In spite of this, Abbott's work reveals the turning away from the harshness of the New England surroundings that was in place at the time. The Eleanor Hallowell Abbott Papers are held by The University of New Hampshire Library in the Milne Special Collections. The collection primarily consists of typescripts of Abbott's short stories

Eleanor Hallowell Abbott was a nationally recognized American author. She was a frequent contributor to The Ladies' Home Journal. She attended Radcliffe College, and then worked as a secretary and teacher at Lowell State Normal School. She went on to publish seventy-five short stories and fourteen romantic novels. Eve is the daughter of Botanist explorer Paul Edgarton. She has lived in and out of a steamer trunk for her entire adult life. While waiting for their next trip her father talks with James Barton, a jaded stockbroker. Eve s father tells James he could not recognize a special woman, because he is too superficial. James has been maneuvered into horseback riding with the dowdy Eve. He soon discovers that Eve is not dull, ponderous or plain.
