[...] Alors que le français s'impose comme le dénominateur langagier commun des élèves dans les écoles francophones en milieu minoritaire, la polyphonie des langues et des cultures africaines interpelle la conception traditionnelle de l'identité francophone et plus spécifiquement la mission énoncée de l'école francophone à la reproduction d'une langue et d'une culture. [...] CADRE THÉORIQUE Le cadre conceptuel et théorique de cette étude articule en conséquence, d'une part, les recherches et les théories développées en sociolinguistique urbaine et en didactique des langues et, d'autre part, celles issues du champ des relations ethniques en éducation et de la gestion de la diversité linguistique et culturelle à l'école dans des contextes minoritaires et minorisés. [...] Le premier d'entre eux s'ancre dans le champ de la sociolinguistique éducative centrée sur l'étude des bi/-plurilinguismes et de la diversité linguistique et culturelle, qui explore les contacts et la transmission des langues en famille et à l'école, et étudie les cultures éducatives privilégiées dans les familles et les institutions (Moore, 2006). À la fois historique et récente, d’ici et d’ailleurs, la francophonie britanno-colombienne se distingue de manière importante de l’Acadie et de l’Ontario français, deux francophonies canadiennes en situation minoritaire bien connues. Avec le foisonnement de nouvelles recherches des dernières années, le moment est propice de faire le point sur cette francophonie qui reste largement méconnue. Les thématiques étudiées sont variées, mais l’éducation reste une préoccupation centrale, même dans les écrits en histoire et en science politique. Le thème de l’éducation, ici, renvoie à l’accès à des écoles de langue française, l’enseignement-apprentissage du français, la formation des enseignantes et des enseignants, ainsi que des enjeux liés à l’identité, l’inclusion et le plurilinguisme. This book delves into the complexity of the exclusion of multiple minority identities against the backdrop of anti-Black racism, linguistic discrimination, slavery, and colonialism and neo-colonialism, along with resilience against identity exclusion. Analyzing the construction and negotiation of Canadian, Francophone, and Black-African identities, we juxtapose inclusive identity meanings with dominant perceptions to show ways in which race, language, ethnicity, and religion shape identities in the 21st century. Drawing on the criterial tradition, critical race theory, critical multiculturalism, and critical ethnography, we engage the work of Frantz Fanon and Negritude and utilize semi-structured interviews, document collection, and content analysis to interpret identity and identification.
