This volume offers a cross-disciplinary insight into language contact research, bringing together fresh empirical and theoretical studies from various fields concerning different dimensions of language contact and variation, second language acquisition and translation. In the present-day world of globalization, population mobility and information technology, the themes of multilingualism and contact-induced language change are as topical as ever, and research on language contacts and cross-linguistic influence has expanded rapidly during the last few decades. Along with the increasing specialization of related disciplines, their research perspectives, methods and terminology have become dispersed, although language contact phenomena themselves can rarely be confined within the scope of a single discipline. This collection of articles creates dialogue between researchers from different scientific backgrounds, thus viewing language contact phenomena from a broader perspective. When language contact is re-defined to include the mental or cognitive level of contact between different languages and varieties in the minds of language learners or translators, salient links are created between the different disciplines dealing with this subject matter.

Contrastive Linguistics (CL), Translation Studies (TS) and Machine Translation (MT) have common grounds: They all work at the crossroad where two or more languages meet. Despite their inherent relatedness, methodological exchange between the three disciplines is rare. This special issue touches upon areas where the three fields converge. It results directly from a workshop at the 2011 German Association for Language Technology and Computational Linguistics (GSCL) conference in Hamburg where researchers from the three fields presented and discussed their interdisciplinary work. While the studies contained in this volume draw from a wide variety of objectives and methods, and various areas of overlaps between CL, TS and MT are addressed, the volume is by no means exhaustive with regard to this topic. Further cross-fertilisation is not only desirable, but almost mandatory in order to tackle future tasks and endeavours.}

Barcelona (English, U. of Murcia, Spain) has collected 17 essays by 18 contributors (no information provided) that place the cognitive theory of metaphor and metonymy at a crossroads in at least three senses. First, because the theory is at a turning point, partially indicated by increased concern with the nature of metonymy, usually a neglected area. Second, because of the interaction between metaphor and metonymy which meet at conceptual and linguistic crossroads. Third, because the cognitive theory of metaphor and metonymy is exhibiting new tendencies like the study of the metaphorical motivation of crosslinguistic patterns of lexical semantic change, the metonymic motivation of grammar, and the study of metaphor and metonymy in advertising and conversation. This volume aims at contributing to an interpretive approach to writing and its dynamics. It offers a general scope on the process-product interface by multiplying the points of view on both the process and the product and their links. The book presents new findings and perspectives in the study of language and writing, both theoretical and methodological (e.g. dual process models of writing, pragmatics of writing, linguistic analysis of psycholinguistic units such as bursts of production). It also presents new tools for a longitudinal approach to the writing steps, key-stroke logging with integrated linguistic modules, and textometric analysis of written texts. The volume is composed of five sections that highlight different approaches to writing from the viewpoint of multiple disciplines: Anthropology, Cognitive Psycholinguistics, Communication Studies, Didactics (Applied Linguistics), Discourse Analysis, Literacy, Sociolinguistics and Text Genetics. This book will be relevant for scholars and students interested in writing, text analysis, literacy, learning and teaching. As of January 2019, this e-book is freely available, thanks to the support of libraries working with Knowledge Unlatched.

This collection of articles, contributed by both experienced and novice researchers, addresses core issues in three different domains of Hispanic Linguistics: theoretical linguistics, language acquisition and language contact. Together these papers provide an overview of how the analysis of Spanish contributes to current formal and experimental linguistics, while on an individual level offering fine-grained analyses and innovative proposals covering a wide range of areas such as semantics and pragmatics, syntax, morphology, phonology, prosody, dialectal variation, first, second and bilingual language acquisition, as well as sociolinguistics. The volume will be a resource for graduate students, academics and researchers in theoretical, experimental and descriptive linguistics in general and Hispanic Linguistics in particular.The selection of chapters included in this volume were presented at the 17th Hispanic Linguistics Symposium hosted in October 2013 by the Language Acquisition Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada.
