Phillips write Markham in reference to a new journal he proposes: PAN: Poetry and Youth. The journal will provied a national medium of expression for the younger poets of the country. Phillips asks Markham whether he can participate by being on the advisory board.

Mr. Records, who was disabled by a gasoline explosion in 1922, has questioned his existance because of his disability. He has been an admirer of Markham's The Man and a Hoe, and asks permission to use it on a greeting card that he has created.
