This self-paced workbook presents basic information about features of the "AppleWorks" software package, provides practice materials for beginners, discusses features available in an integrated three-application package, and provides guided hands-on activities. The applications include the spreadsheet, the word processor, printer options and using the clipboard, and the database. Each chapter is self-contained but this workbook is designed to be used in conjunction with an accompanying disk (suitable for an Apple computer only) that contains introductory files for each activity. Lessons cover: (l) operational features of "AppleWorks," spreadsheet features, and using the spreadsheet for grading; (2) making corrections on the word processor, adding/replacing characters, deleting/moving words and blocks of text, replacing the text, and creating a sample document; (3) printer options, including completing a questionnaire, changing a file name, word processor and spreadsheet options, copying text through the clipboard, and transferring spreadsheet information into a word processor file; and (4) an overview of the database and printing single records/reports. Common beginner questions are answered first, and a version of each application is provided in a step-by-step approach designed for use by pairs of workshop participants. Screen shots are also provided with examples taken from the home or school setting. Reprinted articles from "The Computing Teacher" journal which describe how teachers have used spreadsheets, database, and word processor applications for instructional or personal use, and an index for each application are provided.
