Blu Dot is an American pioneer of democratic design, and winner of the 2018 National Design Award for Product Design from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Founded and run by its principal designers, the company is celebrated for its minimal and innovative design, and its mission to make modern design accessible to a wider audience. Published to coincide with the brand's twentieth anniversary, this carefully produced book collects two decades' worth of ideas, inspiration, designs, and products that chronicle the evolution of one of the most iconic names in contemporary American design. Illustrated with stunning photography of Blu Dot's best-known pieces, the book includes everything the brand has ever produced, from the very earliest designs like the Chicago 8 box shelving system to the ubiquitous and iconic Real Good Chair. Supplemented by sketches, notes, and other inspirational materials drawn from the archives of Blu Dot's founders -- John Christakos, Maurice Blanks, and Charlie Lazor -- this book also includes revealing interviews and written contributions from leading names in contemporary design, including an essay by design curator Andrew Blauvelt. A certain kind of busyness is crucial to life, allowing us to earn a living, create art, and achieve success. But too often it consumes us and we become crazy busy, nonstop busy, and we expend extraneous effort that gets us nowhere. Marc Lesser’s new book shows us the benefits of doing less in a world that has increasingly embraced more — more desire, more activity, more things, more exhaustion. Less is about stopping, about the possibility of finding composure in the midst of activity. The ideas and practices that Lesser outlines offer a radical yet simple approach to transforming a lifestyle based on endless to-do lists into a more meaningful approach that is truly more productive in every sense.

Less Is More is a glorious celebration -- in words and images -- of simple and profound answers. But, is there any way to live the good life in an environment of scarcity? Parker answers with an unequivocal, "Yes." She writes, "We can embrace simplicity as a desired outcome rather than a hardship we can't control. We can throw ourselves into new creation and transform our circumstances into new opportunities by embracing a credo of recycling and renewal. Most of all, we can give back and move forward through a daily practice of gratitude and the intense joy it brings us." * More than 50 beautiful photos, combined with inspiring and comforting thoughts.

This book presents the first English translation of Alexander Baumgarten's Initia Philosophiae Practicae Primae, the textbook Kant used in his lectures on moral philosophy. Originally published in Latin in 1760, the Initia contains a systematic, but original version of the universal practical philosophy first articulated by Christian Wolff. In his personal copy, Kant penned hundreds of pages of notes and sketches that document his relation to this earlier tradition. Translating these extensive elucidations into English, together with Kant's notes on the text, this translation offers a complete resource to Kant's reading of the Initia. To facilitate further study, first-time translations of elucidatory passages from G. F. Meier and Wolff are also included, alongside a German-English-Latin glossary. The translators' introduction provides a biography of Baumgarten, a discussion of the importance of the Initia, its relation to Wolff's and Meier's universal practical philosophy and its role in Kant's lectures. By shedding new light on the arguments of Kant's mature works and offering insights into his pre-Critical moral thought, Elements of First Practical Philosophy reveals why Baumgarten's work is essential for understanding the background to Kant's philosophy.
