Cet écart économique peut-il en partie se justifier par des mécanismes découlant de l'écart de fécondité ?

France is a Pacific power, with three territories, a military presence, and extensive investments. Once seen by many as a colonial interloper in the South Pacific, by the early 2000s, after it ended nuclear testing in French Polynesia and negotiated transitional Accords responding to independence demands in New Caledonia, France seems to have become generally accepted as a regional partner, even if its efforts concentrate on its own territories rather than the independent island states. But Frances future in the region has yet to be secured. By 2014 it is to have handed over a set of agreed autonomies to the New Caledonian government, before an independence referendum process begins. Past experience suggests that a final resolution of the status of New Caledonia will be divisive and could lead once again to violent confrontations. In French Polynesia, calls continue for independence and for treatment under UN decolonisation procedures, which France opposes. Other island leaders are watching, so far putting faith in the Noumea Accord, but wary of the final stages. The issues and possible solutions are more complex than the French Pacific island population of 515,000 would suggest. The Illusion of the Prolongation of Youth Is it true that 'youth' as a life stage is increasingly being prolonged, as is often claimed? Are young people increasingly delaying their entry into adulthood? Advanced societies have recently undergone deep transformations, which in turn have affected young people's pathways of transition. However, the widespread assumption that youth is being extended may well be inaccurate. Indeed, the concept of adulthood itself needs reconsideration. In this comparative study, young Finnish and French female university students offer their perspectives on their own processes of transition. They evaluate their passage from university to working life, the dilemmas they face in attaining independence, their ambivalence about starting a family, and their perspectives both on becoming an adult and on the meaning of adulthood. The Body in French Queer Thought from Wittig to Preciado: Queer Permeability identifies a common concern in French queer works for the materiality of the body, arguing for a return to the body as fundamental to queer thought and politics, from HIV onwards.
