Depuis quelques années émergent des réflexions concernant le développement durable y intégrant des questions telles que l'environnement et les femmes. Des aspects plus sociaux semblent devenir des préoccupations importantes qui se sont également fait sentir dans le secteur minier. Devant ce tableau, nous avons voulu en savoir plus tout en apportant un regard différent sur des enjeux souvent traités de manière distincte. Nous avons voulu faire ressortir la place qu'occupent les femmes et l'environnement dans le cadre du développement minier en Afrique. Les constats préliminaires nous ont permis d'élaborer l'hypothèse suivante: La place des femmes dans les stratégies employées par les acteurs du développement dans le secteur minier demeure marginale et lorsqu'elle est évoquée, les femmes sont rarement considérées comme actrices du développement, mais le plus souvent intégrées de manière passive à des stratégies qui leurs sont destinées. Aujourd'hui, il nous apparaît important de faire de l'environnement et des femmes une préoccupation centrale dans les stratégies des acteurs du développement minier.

Trade can dramatically improve women’s lives, creating new jobs, enhancing consumer choices, and increasing women’s bargaining power in society. It can also lead to job losses and a concentration of work in low-skilled employment. Given the complexity and specificity of the relationship between trade and gender, it is essential to assess the potential impact of trade policy on both women and men and to develop appropriate, evidence-based policies to ensure that trade helps to enhance opportunities for all. Research on gender equality and trade has been constrained by limited data and a lack of understanding of the connections among the economic roles that women play as workers, consumers, and decision makers. Building on new analyses and new sex-disaggregated data, Women and Trade: The Role of Trade in Promoting Gender Equality aims to advance the understanding of the relationship between trade and gender equality and to identify a series of opportunities through which trade can improve the lives of women.

The Little Green Data Book 2017 is based on World Development Indicators 2017 and its online database. Defining, gathering, and disseminating international statistics is a collective effort of many people and organizations. The indicators presented in World Development Indicators are the fruit of decades of work at many levels, from the field workers who administer censuses and household surveys to the committees and working parties of the national and international statistical agencies that develop the nomenclature, classifications, and standards fundamental to the international statistical system. In this theoretically original work, two distinguished authors explore the mutual interdependence of states and firms throughout the world. They show how global structural changes - in finance, technology, knowledge and politics - often impel governments to seek the help and cooperation of managers of multinational enterprises. Yet, as Professors Stopford and Strange demonstrate, this is constrained by each country's economic resources, its social structures and its political history. Based on grass-roots research into the experience of over 50 multinationals and more than 100 investment projects in three developing countries- Brazil, Malaysia and Kenya - the authors develop a matrix of agendas. They present the impact on projects of the multiple factors affecting the bargaining relationships between the government and the foreign firm at different times and in a variety of economic sectors. In conclusion they offer some guidelines for actions to both governments and firms and some points to future interdisciplinary research.
