Veronica Fynn's "Legal Discrepancies: Internal Displacement of Women and Children in Africa" is not only timely (produced soon after Africa adopts its historical Convention on the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced People in Africa, 2009). "Legal Discrepancies: Legal Discrepancies: Internal Displacement of Women and Children in Africa" offers the first comprehensive, holistic, and multi-disciplinary examination on the efficacy of international, regional and national laws and policies in protecting and assisting IDPs. Fynn's research provides a thought provoking framework for academics, lawyers, public health practitioners, aid workers, national governments, regional institutions and international organizations to rethink the legal space within which internally displaced peoples lingers.

This timely and expansive multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary collection dissects precolonial, colonial, and post-independence issues of male dominance, power, and control over the female body in the legal, socio-cultural, and political contexts in Africa. Contributors focus on the historical, theoretical, and empirical narratives of intersecting perspectives of gender and patriarchy in at least ten countries across the major sub-regions of the African continent. This book outlines the findings and suggestions of the Law and Society Association’s International Research Collaborations, which focused on the African Union’s Agenda 2063. This outlined the ideal Africa aspired to by the year 2063: ‘the Africa we want’. The authors examine socio-economic rights issues and their impact on developing a strong educational agenda that can drive Africa to realize Agenda 2063. As Africa’s development has remained slow in the face of many challenges, the need to embrace good governance, rule of law and human rights obligations are major tools to realize the continent’s potential. The project focuses in particular on the central place of education law and policy in achieving the goals of Agenda 2063.

The title of the conference “Contradiction, Conflict and Continuity: Their Significance in Contemporary Society” is generic. Contradiction and conflict became tangible from the time when language became the medium of expression. The inevitable consequence of such contradictions and conflicts was severe bloodsheds. As society developed, perceptions towards contradiction and conflict were also changed. Some ideologies which were identified as the prevalent customs of the society became the mammoth issues of contradiction and conflicts. Sometimes, the contradictions were restricted within discussion among the cultured people, sometimes it was continued as people, holding different ideologies, moved on simultaneously without influencing the other, for example, between the theist and the atheist and among various isms. The same idealism which triggered the ire of conflict and contradiction in different socio-political aspects, sometimes become the soul guiding force for the development in various trajectories.

Displacees and Health: Issues and Challenges deals with issues of health and challenges in the life of displaced people of the world. Ten years after the coming into force of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, this volume presents an analysis of its progress so far. Looking both backward and forward it provides a reflection on successes and achievements of the past, as well as setting an agenda for the future.
