Este libro es el resultado de la larga experiencia académica de Georges Couffignal, que propone un análisis sociopolítico de América Latina. El centro de atención está dado por los cambios que ha vivido y protagonizado el continente durante los siglos XX y XXI, a veces contrastados con la realidad europea. Dentro del conjunto de experiencias que Couffignal analiza, encontramos las nuevas configuraciones político-sociales, el despertar de la sociedad civil, la consolidación de los países latinoamericanos y los casos de instauración de experiencias constituyentes de carácter indigenista, entre otras. La crítica que propone La nueva América Latina apunta fundamentalmente a los estereotipos políticos que existen sobre el continente, como aquellos que ubican al populismo en el terreno de las deformaciones políticas. A pesar de estar presente en otras regiones del mundo, se trata de una fórmula genuinamente latinoamericana que no ha perdido vigencia. En ese sentido, el autor entrega herramientas para comprender el populismo, planteando que en la actualidad, a contrapelo de aquellos estereotipos, sus mecanismos expresan la capacidad que América Latina posee de encontrar soluciones políticas creativas y de proponerlas al resto del mundo.

In 2010, the Latin American and Caribbean region showed great resilience to the international financial crisis and became the world region with the fastest-growing flows of both inward and outward foreign direct investment (FDI). The upswing in FDI in the region has occurred in a context in which developing countries in general have taken on a greater share in both inward and outward FDI flows. This briefing paper is divided into five sections. The first offers a regional overview of FDI in 2010. The second examines FDI trends in Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic. The third describes the presence China is beginning to build up as an investor in the region. Lastly, the fourth and fifth sections analyze the main foreign investments and business strategies in the telecommunications and software sectors, respectively.

This book charts the development of forensic anthropology teams in Latin America and surveys their main characteristics, achievements, and challenges in light of a recent past fraught with state repression and violence.
