The birth of the 1970s' punk movement as seen through the eyes of Chicana feminist and punk musician Alice Bag.

With a combination of song lyrics and reflective essays, Alabama author Frye Gaillard and recording artist Kathryn Scheldt pay tribute to the literary legacy of Alabama songwriters. Included here are reflections on the works of Hank Williams, Emmylou Harris, and W. C. Handy, among many others. Scheldt and Gaillard share Emmylou's view that the Americana music coming out of Alabama has been "the literature of the people." In addition to writing about this tradition, these two authors are part of it. In these pages and on an accompanying CD are songs co-written by Scheldt and Gaillard.

Both worked in Brooklyn and became casually acquainted until they vacationed at his family's modest cottage in rural Grenada. Though mesmerized by everything Grenadian, his guest experienced disquieting cultural shocks. Every experience, pleasant and unpleasant, she diligently recorded including details of their slow moving island-style romance. Driven to socially construct her multicultural family tree, their American-born granddaughter visited Grenada sixty years later. The flamboyant social life, intimacy and intense spicy aura captivated her and like her grandmother she too was inescapably "Caribbeanized."

This seven volume set reissues a collection of out-of-print titles covering a range of responses to modern culture. They include in-depth analyses of US and Australian popular culture, works on the media and television, macrosociology, and the media and ‘otherness’.
