Desde una perspectiva general, la acreditación de programas educativos representa un mecanismo para orientar las tareas educativas de la formación profesional, con prácticas y resultados que se reconocen desde un horizonte nacional e internacional, convirtiéndose en la estrategia que han asumido las universidades e instituciones de educación superior, para impulsar el mejoramiento permanente y el logro de calidad educativa. Algunas preguntas que orientan el debate sobre el tema de la acreditación de programas educativos son, entre otras: ¿qué beneficios estructurales han tenido los procesos de acreditación de programas educativos en el sistema de educación superior en América Latina y España?, ¿cuáles son los cambios de carácter académico que en los últimos 15 años se han generado en el sistema de educación superior, en comparación con los sistemas de países con los que tenemos acuerdos bilaterales?, ¿los indicadores y estándares de calidad reportados por el Consejo para la Acreditación de la Educación Superior, qué significado tienen en el contexto nacional e internacional?, ¿cuál es la visión de la acreditación y certificación de la educación superior en España y América Latina? En esta obra de dos volúmenes se rescatan algunas respuestas a las interrogantes planteadas, mediante la recuperación de experiencias institucionales y productos de investigación sobre el tema. Finalmente, se caracterizan y explican las tensiones, desencuentros, conflictos y resultados de la acreditación de la educación superior y de la gestión de la calidad de los programas educativos en la Región Iberoamericana.

​This book provides the readers with a map of the higher education systems and strategic management trends in the higher education institutions within countries of the Ibero-America region. The key feature of this volume is the presentation of a conceptual framework as a point of reference for the development of university management systems in a specific context. Furthermore, the book provides an overview of the development of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean, to advance understanding of the changes observed in the institutional strategic management setting. The book examines and compares the types of strategic management processes used, as well as the models of applicability of strategy-making. This analysis is done by cutting through a critical review of the processes and systems of university management used in the various analysed countries, and pays special attention to the actors involved, the processes, the reporting systems, the expectations and the limitations. Additionally, the book introduces a methodology for the identification and implementation of best practice in university strategic management, and presents practical suggestions about the ways in which processes and models can be used to increase quality and competitive advantage.

Southern social movements have played an important role in shaping world history and politics. Nevertheless, scholarly literature on movements of the global South remains limited and restricted to testing the social movement theory which was developed in the North. This Northern-centric approach largely fails to provide a meaningful understanding of Southern movements because it is not directly applicable to the differing historical backgrounds, culture and socio-economic structures found in the South. Much of the uniqueness and complexity of Southern social movements has therefore been overlooked. This collection analyses recent events and developments in Southern social movements, introducing well-researched case studies from fifteen countries of the global South. Arranged in two parts, the volume examines firstly movements which focus on rights and quality of life issues, and secondly the post-2011 wave of uprisings which started with Tunisian and Egyptian movements. Contributing to ongoing discussions about the Northern-centric nature of social movement theory and the social sciences more generally, the authors enter into dialogue with the debate on local and national levels, as well as globalizing processes. Through an interdisciplinary approach this book broadens the theoretical and empirical perspectives for the study of social movements and will appeal to sociologists, political scientists, scholars and students of social movements, and social activists.

In the era of globalization since the 1990s, international cooperation has become one of the most challenging topics of debate and research in higher education. This book attempts to provide scientific evidence on the debates and different types of internationalization found in higher education from a Mexican point of view. It identifies German and Mexican partnership collaborations in institutions of higher education as well as the experiences of German and Mexican university personnel involved in educational projects. The findings are based on qualitative research using documentary evidence, semi-structured expert interviews and qualitative content analysis. The study encompasses three levels. At the macro level, internationalization of higher education is discussed in a general way but with a focus on the Mexican situation, presenting a typology of prevailing types of internationalization. The meso level includes a secondary analysis of official data on the bilateral relations between German and Mexican institutions of higher education. The micro level presents a case study of two particular university collaborations using the experiences of those involved in both countries. Laura Patricia Cruz Ruiz (born 1972 in Chiapas, Mexico) studied in the field of education at the Business and Pedagogical Development University (UNIVDEP) in Mexico City, where she received her Master Degree (M.A.) in 2008. She has worked at the Mexican Secretariat of Health and Education as well as in the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT), from which, in 2010, she obtained a scholarship for her doctoral studies in Germany. She held a German-Mexican scholarship for international capacity building in Germany from 2005-2006. In 2015, she completed her doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) at the Faculty for Philosophy and Educational Research in the field of Comparative Education at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany.
