I Will Survive is the story of Gloria Gaynor, America's "Queen of Disco." It is the story of riches and fame, despair, and finally salvation. Her meteoric rise to stardom in the mid-1970s was nothing short of phenomenal, and hits poured forth that pushed her to the top of the charts, including "Honey Bee," "I Got You Under My Skin," "Never Can Say Goodbye," and the song that has immortalized her, "I Will Survive," which became a #1 international gold seller. With that song, Gloria heralded the international rise of disco that became synonymous with a way of life in the fast lane - the sweaty bodies at Studio 54, the lines of cocaine, the indescribable feeling that you could always be at the top of your game and never come down. But down she came after her early stardom, and problems followed in the wake, including the death of her mother, whose love had anchored the young singer, as well as constant battles with weight, drugs, and alcohol. While her fans always imagined her to be rich, her personal finances collapsed due to poor management; and while many envied her, she felt completely empty inside. In the early 1980s, sustained by her marriage to music publisher Linwood Simon, Gloria took three years off and reflected upon her life. She visited churches and revisited her mother's old Bible. Discovering the world of gospel, she made a commitment to Christ that sustains her to this day.

Since the 1970s, Louis Bird, a distinguished Aboriginal storyteller and historian, has been recording the stories and memories of Omushkego (Swampy Cree) communities along western Hudson and James Bays. In nine chapters, he presents some of the most vivid legends and historical stories from his collection, casting new light on his people’s history, culture, and values. Working with the editors and other contributors to provide background and context for the stories, he illuminates their many levels of meaning and brings forward the value system and world-view that underlie their teachings. Students of Aboriginal culture, history, and literature will find that this is no ordinary book of stories compiled from a remote, disconnected voice, but rather a project in which the teller, deeply engaged in preserving his people's history, language, and values, is committed to bringing his listeners and readers as far along the road to understanding as he possibly can.

The unknown story of the Black pioneers who collectively changed the face of the NFL in 1946. THE FORGOTTEN FIRST chronicles the lives of four incredible men, the racism they experienced as Black players entering a segregated sport, the burden of expectation they carried, and their many achievements, which would go on to affect football for generations to come. More than a year before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, there was another seismic moment in pro sports history. On March 21,1946, former UCLA star running back Kenny Washington—a teammate of Robinson's in college—signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams. This ended one of the most shameful periods in NFL history, when African-American players were banned from league play. Washington would not be alone in serving as a pioneer for NFL integration. Just months after he joined the Rams, thanks to a concerted effort by influential Los Angeles political and civic leaders, the team signed Woody Strode, who played with both Washington and Robinson at UCLA in one of the most celebrated backfields in college sports history. And that same year, a little-known coach named Paul Brown of the fledgling Cleveland Browns signed running back Marion Motley and defensive lineman Bill Willis, thereby integrating a startup league that would eventually merge with the NFL. THE FORGOTTEN FIRST tells the story of one of the most significant cultural shifts in pro football history, as four men opened the door to opportunity and changed the sport forever.

Improve your life immediately and continually with this practical and transformative prompt and guide written by American artist and entrepreneur, KIRU. So often we are told to 'be positive', to 'think good thoughts' or 'say nice things.' These are inherently good statements and ideas, and they're so well known across the world that it's safe to say most people already understand that it is generally important to be positive, grateful, and kind. Herein lies the struggle: Most people believe that they are capable of growing and improving as an individual, yet they struggle to connect with the actual practice of becoming a better person. They search forever to find the tools to help them grow and instead get lost in a raging sea of cute sayings, nice tries and other abstract happiness material. Here comes the good news. The struggle stops here. The Book of Positive Affirmations is the definitive guide for unleashing the power of positive affirmations in your daily life. Organized neatly into three categories of forty affirmations each, this book will lead and support you day by day with affirmations designed to raise awareness on how to effectively love yourself, know yourself and grow yourself. Positive affirmations are unique from listed quotes and random sayings. They are so much more than a simple feel good phrase. When you make the decision to affirm the power of positivity in your life, you are literally maximizing your awareness of the good and minimizing your focus on that which is not. Decades of research has shown us that when we increase our exposure to positive experiences, our minds open up to new possibilities that we otherwise would not have seen or believed. Putting these affirmations into an order that allows you to ingest and emit positivity day after day is more than an effort to save your life, it's an opportunity to continually improve it.This simplified version includes a guided day count sans illustrations.

I have been a Life Coach, trainer and mentor for the past ten years and always considered positive affirmations to be an essential element of the work that I did. This book came about as a result of my foray into social networking at the end of 2008. Whilst on these social networks I became aware that people needed some positive comments to help them through the week. Whenever I posted affirmations people were very approving and left positive comments on my status. In time I created a Facebook group to address this need and begun sending weekly affirmations to individuals using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and to a more limited extent, by email. It was then that some people commented that I should publish a book of affirmations. I have chosen to combine my Weekly Affirmations with life coaching especially aimed at people who may have been going through difficult or challenging situations in their lives, such as illnesses, redundancies, facing debt, raising teenagers, or daily battling the traffic to work that they may not like. You can use these affirmations when you want to feel better about yourself by repeating them 7-10 times (out loud if you can), when it is safe to do so, each morning and evening. Each affirmation contained within this book is designed to be repeated and meditated upon each week over a fifty-two week period. There is also the opportunity to keep a journal of your thoughts, lessons and any positive actions or achievements that may have come about as a result of using these weekly affirmations. Your journal as it develops may contribute to your own personal development and growth over the year.

Repeating affirmations is simple - but an effective affirmation involves much more than the words you speak! That's why Positive Affirmations Journal is not your typical interactive workbook. It includes 50 positive affirmations with TWO different writing prompts for each one. Yes, two, and it's designed this way for good reason. These 100 unique writing prompts help you dig deep by approaching your thoughts from more than one perspective. Instead of only scratching the surface, you'll take a close look at what's really going on in your head. What hidden negative thoughts are holding you back? Are you truly open to new possibilities, or are you letting your mind run on autopilot? Are you pursuing your passions or living by default? Do you have a clear picture of exactly what you want, or only a vague notion? This book takes you on a quest to find answers to those questions and more. The affirmations cover a broad range of topics, and the engaging prompters make your journey interesting and fun. From serious self-reflection to letting your imagination run wild, you will be encouraged and inspired to rethink your positive thinking. Most importantly, you'll explore the connections between your thoughts and the emotions behind them. Creative journaling is an excellent way to raise your self-awareness, and these 100 writing ideas provide keys to transforming meaningless statements into powerful, positive affirmations.
