Justus, Justis, Justice families in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina from the 1600's. Justis/Justus/Justice families in Pennsylvania, had been there since the late 1600's with the Swedish name of Gustafsson, which later was changed to Justisson, Justis, Justus, Justice. The author's lineage comes through John Justus, Sr. (1741-1829). His two sons, Isaac Justis (1794-1886) born in S. Carolina, married Sara (Polly) Lyda, and John Justis, Jr. (1782-1842) born in S. Carolina and married Elizabeth Thomas (1797-1852), are both direct line ancestors of the author.
