This book explores visual object recognition and introduces a collaborative model, codified as the "Perceptual Expertise Network" (PEN). It focuses on delineating the principles of high-level visual learning that can account for how different object categories are processed and associated with spatially localized activity in the primate brain. It address questions such as how expertise develops, whether there are different kinds of experts, whether some disorders such as autism or prosopagnosia can be understood as a lack or loss of expertise, and how conceptual and perceptual information interact when experts recognize and categorize objects. The research and results that have been generated by these questions are presented here, along with other questions, background information, and extant issues that have emerged from recent studies.

Although we are all living in the same world, we are simultaneously each living in our own seperate universe, where each person observes himself as the center of that universe. Beyond the apparent world lies the essence of life and a vast kingdom of hidden knowledge. Our conditioning and beliefs bind us to a certain perspective in which we view our reality. Perceptions of Reality show us how we can break free of the bondage of our conditioning that holds us in a life of mediocrity. When we become free from this bondage, we can change our perspective, which in turn, changes our perceptions. From a highter perspective we can see the larger picture of our lives and the world. We will see the circumstances that have created our present reality, and the relationships of events and experiences that were previously beyond our horizons of perception. From this higher perspective we will perceive the world in a new light. It will change brfore our eyes and interface with us in a new and more positive way. We will be able to take control of our lives, change our destiny and shape a new future. From this higher state of awareness, we will discover the portal to access the abstract mind, which is the mental function of genius and the doorway to revelation. From the perspective of revelation, we will open the doors into the absolute realms, beyond material time and space, and describes the perceptions of God, the soul, the world, and the paths to higher consciousness. Perceptions of Reality will show us how to access the abstract mind and open the doorways into revelation, creating a new reality, full of abundance, harmony and joy.

Researchers working in many fields of psychology and neuroscience are interested in the temporal structure of experience, as well as the experience of time, at scales of a few milliseconds up to a few seconds as well as days, months, years, and beyond. This Research Topic supposes that broadly speaking, the field of "time psychology" can be organized by distinguishing between "perceptual" and "conceptual" time-scales. Dealing with conceptual time: "mental time travel," also called mental simulation, self-projection, episodic-semantic memory, prospection/foresight, allows humans (and perhaps other animals) to imagine and plan events and experiences in their personal futures, based in large part on memories of their personal pasts, as well as general knowledge. Moreover, contents of human language and thought are fundamentally organized by a temporal dimension, enmeshed with it so thoroughly that it is usually expressible only through spatial metaphors. But what might such notions have to do with experienced durations of events lasting milliseconds up to a few seconds, during the so-called "present moment" of perception-action cycle time? This Research Topic is organized around the general premise that, by considering how mental time travel might "scale down" to time perception (and vice-versa, no less), progress and integrative synthesis within- and across- scientific domains might be facilitated. Bipolar configurations of future- and past-orientations of the self may be repeated in parallel across conceptual and perceptual time-scales, subsumed by a general "Janus-like" feedforward-feedback system for goal-pursuit. As an example, it is notable that the duality of "prospection" and semantic-episodic memory operating at conceptual time-scales has an analogue in perception-action cycle time, namely the interplay of anticipatory attention and working memory. Authors from all areas of psychology and neuroscience are encouraged to submit articles of any format accepted by the journal (Original Research, Methods, Hypothesis & Theory, Reviews, etc.), which might speak to questions about time and temporal phenomena at long and/or short time-scales.
