Thanks Knox for informing him that Mr. Livingston was away in the country, and for advising him that a personal interview would do better than a letter in handling their mutual business. Also thanks him for his offer of delivering the letter upon Livingston's return. Livingston is powerless to do anything for or against his interests, as Livingston's agent, Andrew Stockholm, is in charge of the concerns of the company. Describes his legal dispute with the Livingston company. Asks Knox to provide him with updates regarding the status of Congress's bill about the Judiciary. Hopes that mutual friend General [Benjamin] Lincoln may help him receive an appointment as an officer of the court. Also asks Knox for a recommendation in his application for the Office of Marshal.

Has received Knox's last letter. Has not yet seen Mr. [Isaac] Winslow, Sr. but has seen a member of the petition committee, who declared that the committee will meet in two or three days. Hopes to see Mr. Winslow before then. Has enclosed a copy of the petition, Knox's check book from the bank, and a letter to Peirce's brother (not present).

Discusses a business transaction involving himself, [Joseph] Anthony, [Thomas] Randall, and Mr. [William] Crammond. Says Randall has requested Knox pay [Dollar sign]12,000 (likely a debt Knox owed to Randall) to Mr. Crammond. Appears Randall and possibly Crammond also owe money to creditors. Describes a proposition he made to Crammond regarding the debt.

Writes that the bearer, Captain Thomas Vose, has arranged with Knox to occupy and apparently rent farmland belonging to Knox. Asks Wheaton to deliver him to the territory at a time he and Vose can agree upon.
