The first portion of the letter, dated 29 July, asks Knox some questions about poultry and chicken coops Knox owns. Also reports that one of Knox's attorneys, John Hale, has died. The second portion, dated 2 August, mentions furniture and finding a tenant for a house. Also reports on several other matters, including the arrival of a vessel and the imminent return of William Bingham and family. Includes a list of goods shipped as well.

Writes to remind Peirce that he wanted him to purchase iron and several other items. Also encloses acceptances from Mr. [Alexander] Baring, and discusses Baring's upcoming trip to Boston. Comments extensively on financial matters, and includes some calculations and a list of people to whom he gave financial notes.
