This document is a letter from Brigadier General David Dickson in Jackson County (Georgia) to Governor of Georgia John Milledge (1802-1806), dated April 6, 1803. Dickson informs Milledge that a number of families have recently settled on Indian land across from a regiment commanded by Colonel Hampton. Dickson, in anticipation of negative responses from the Indians, ordered Hampton to warn the settlers to remove and to burn their camps and cabins.

Joseph Elias Carroll was born 25 September 1781 in York District, South Carolina. His parents were Joseph Carroll (1746-1803) and Martha Swancey (1752-1849). He married Isabella Henry (1788-1840), daughter of William Henry and Rosannah Moore. They had thirteen children. Joseph died 18 August 1860 in Louisiana, Missouri. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ireland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Missouri.
