Excerpt from Iowa Criminal Code and Digest and Criminal Pleading and Practice, 1879 The work, as will be noticed, is divided into two parts: Part First, containing Crimes and Offenses, with forms of Informa tions and Indictments; and Part Second, the Practice and Incidents of Trials; both being arranged alphabetically. Not only the law under the Criminal Code will be found reproduced, but twenty-eight sections of the Civil Code, sixteen sections of the Laws of 187 4, nine sections of the Laws of 1876, and fifty-six sections of the Laws of 1878, all applicable to criminal procedure are included, thus rendering reference to the Code and Session Laws unnecessary; and every criminal case, in Morris (one volume), G. Greene (four volumes), Iowa (forty-six volumes), and opinions filed (not yet in reports). To July 1, 1878. There will, also, be found a chapter, each, on Bastardy, Contempt, Habeas Corpus, and Mayors' Courts, in criminal proceedings. Also, the usual Table of Cases, and in addition a Topical Table of Cases, not found in law books generally. The author hopes that the work will be found to meet the requirements of the profession, or, at least, that it will help to lighten the labors of attorneys in this important branch of the practice, in which it frequently happens a case must be tried on short notice. In such cases its value will be apparent. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • A bestselling dystopian novel that tackles surveillance, privacy and the frightening intrusions of technology in our lives—a “compulsively readable parable for the 21st century” (Vanity Fair). When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company’s modernity and activity. There are parties that last through the night, there are famous musicians playing on the lawn, there are athletic activities and clubs and brunches, and even an aquarium of rare fish retrieved from the Marianas Trench by the CEO. Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in the world—even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.
