What would it be like to meet Jesus face to face? Stories of encounters between Jesus and various women have been handed down through the centuries and give us a glimpse of how He responded to women with needs and desires similar to ours. Because Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can be confident He treats women today like He did when He walked the earth. We, too, can trust that He is powerful, good, and kind. The purpose of this book is to encourage the reader by showing that Jesus understands her needs and desires and continues to unconditionally love, value, forgive, rescue, heal, comfort, provide for, restore, satisfy and give life-now and eternally. Portrait of a Woman and Jesus captures a verbal and visual snapshot of thirteen face-to-face encounters of a woman and Jesus. Each portrait by artist Wilson Ong reflects how the scene may have unfolded as a woman interacted with Jesus.

Excerpt from Portraits of Women of the Bible: Old Testament Series The following character-sketches were given in the ordinary course of my pulpit ministrations. The members of the congregation were interested in them during their delivery, and the suggestion was made that they might be put into a more permanent form hence this volume. The title of the book sufficiently describes its aim; the lectures are pen-portraits, and the endeavour has been to faithfully reproduce the living features of the original. I have ventured, however, in one or two of the sketches - as e.g. In the case of Rizpah - to fill up that which was lacking in the Scripture narrative in order to give a measure of completeness to the portrait. In others a few simple lessons are suggested; but for the most part the character-sketch is allowed to speak for itself. Winner of a 2020 Catholic Press Association book award (third place, scripture-popular studies). The women God called to bring his chosen people into the world were ordinary women who struggled with emptiness, oppression, infertility, and loss—yet who found strength and hope in God. In her first book, Sarah Christmyer—codeveloper of The Great Adventure Catholic Bible study program—pairs the stories of key Old Testament women with stories of women she has known to show us how we can hear God, say yes to his call, and share him with the world just as they did. Breaking open the scriptures to reveal the historical, cultural, and biblical context in which Old Testament women lived, Sarah Christmyer breathes new life into their stories and makes their lives surprisingly relatable. In the process, she shares stories from her own faith journey and the lives of family and friends to show how the same principles that turned ordinary women into heroines of the faith are true for our lives today. Each chapter of Becoming Women of the Word highlights the spiritual legacy of one or more women in the Old Testament. Their world was vastly different from ours, yet they faced the same questions we do: when we can’t feel God’s presence, where do we find help? When our world is collapsing, where is God? Why should we trust him? How can we trust him? Christmyer simply and clearly draws from the lives of these women important principles that help us to trust—even as we struggle with doubt. For example: Through Eve, we learn to hold on to God’s promise even when we fail. Sarah reminds us to wait on God’s timing to make us fruitful. Miriam, the sister of Moses, shows how to lead by example. Ruth and Esther challenge us to see womanhood as a gift. Hannah and Judith inspire us to trust God even in matters of life and death. These unforgettable portraits create a colorful mosaic of faith, encouraging us to mine God’s Word for spiritual treasure and to pass on the gift.

Originally published to great acclaim in 1969, The Unique World of Women is filled with Eugenia Price’s sage advice on how twentieth-century women can learn from the trials and tribulations suffered by the women of the Bible. In The Unique World of Women, Eugenia Price creates unforgettable, intimate portraits of Keturah, Mary of Jerusalem, and other women from the Bible, and relates their troubles to the dilemmas women face today. She reinforces the notion that God needed women then and He needs them now–women who will witness to His love and use their unique sensitivity and compassion in order to better our fragmented and ailing society. In simple yet provocative language, Ms. Price shares with her readers what she has learned from these Biblical women, what God has taught her, and what He is still trying to teach women today. Updated with a new Preface, The Unique World of Women is a timely work that belongs on the bookshelves of today’s Christian women.
